Cozy and great location
Had a wonderful time in Mallorca and it really felt great to come home to the cozy casita. It had everything that was necessary, just the size we wanted and a wonderful patio/garden. Grahame and the rest were wonderful host and we felt extremely welcome when we arrived.
Elias and his mother left a chilly Gottenburg and arrived to a warm early summer. Very kind and considerate guests, they even gave us some garden plants and delicious Swedish biscuits. Despite their early flight home they left the casita very clean and tidy. We would be delighted to welcome them again.
Peace and tranquility on a busy island
Mallorca is a busy, popular and sought after destination and finding a secluded place to stay that is reasonably priced can be as rare as finding rocking horse droppings. However we found it and enjoyed it immensely. The converted shepard's hut has a rustic, medieval charm and yet Palma is only ten mins away. The little hut is firmly nestled in unspoilt countryside. OK the place is a little dark on the inside because the surrounding trees have encroached a lot; possibly they are also drawn by the magic of this tidy little haven and are huddling closer to share the warmth of the wood burning stove. It gets a little chilly in November you see. Oh and a few things broke and needed to be fixed creatively, but that was charming too. Part of the likability is that the furnishings are a little trapped in the early 90s and therefore they need gentle handling. The owners are wonderful hosts and that adds to the magic. You couldn't ask for two nicer people to be at hand. They just get it! The shared pool and views from the waters edge are certainly worthy of a mention. They are truly mesmorising and moments like that need to be treasured. So you can spend a fortune, if you want, and go for all the 'mod cons', but why do that if you can, instead, wrap yourself in wooded countryside and away from the hurly burly of modern living where unreliable Wifi forces you enjoy a more tradional, refreshing and memorable stay. This comfortable, converted little shepherd's hut makes you feel completely relaxed. It is an ideal base camp for island exploration!
What lovely, lively guests Helen and her family were and it was our great pleasure to welcome them.
Not sure about ´the comfortable little shepherd´s hut´ though! For a one/two- bedroomed cottage it is really rather oversized with very large rooms, well-equipped kitchen, new bathroom and only one restored wall remaining from the original dwelling. Yes, we have some classic 1960´s (not 1990´s) items, very much my personal style, which work well with the high ceilings and exposed beams.
Helen´s sons enjoyed their own privacy, staying in the newly-built second casita which also offers decent space and a large bathroom. When not playing football, with their youthful exhuberance they demolished a sun-lounger, a stereo and the main door lock but left the accommodation clean and tidy. Following their helpful feedback about the internet, we have installed fibre-optic broadband with a new high-powered aerial which has largely resolved the occasional drop-out issue: thank you for that.
We very much look forward to welcoming Helen and family again, maybe in the summer when the pool is a tad warmer.
Great hosts, perfect spot. So quiet but so easy to get everywhere.
Really recommend this place. It's so gorgeous and the hosts are brilliant fun. It's rustic so don't expect gleaming ultra modern. Just go with the flow, the place is great. So easy to get the bus to Palma -took about 20ish minutes and super cheap.
The pool is lovely, right in front of the main house so just a 30 second walk from the casita.
Go. Take a break. Have a laugh. Enjoy just taking one moment at a time.
I'm already missing it.
Rustic but not rough.... the casita, whilst enjoying a large modern kitchen and bathroom, incorporates traditional Mallorcian architecture, such as heavy beams, high ceilings, tiled floors, log burner and a stone wall of the original shepherd's hut. The finca is managed but not manicured which provides excellent natural habitats for a fair variety of wildlife. Kerry was a breath of fresh air who kidnapped one of the dogs each night and explored every part of the island, visited galleries and museums, yet still managing to squeeze in time for shopping. We hope to welcome Kerry (+1) next year.
Truly lovely aspects but not much real privacy
Quinta Asubio is a lovely natural and peaceful place just minutes outside of Palma. We enjoyed the scent of the pine woods, sounds of birds, views to mountains, very good water quality, and easy access to main routes across the whole island. The casitas are spacious, clean and well furnished - the beds comfortable.
However, we experienced some drawbacks during our stay. Firstly, the website photos and description give the impression that the salt water pool is private and un-overlooked (just the holiday home we were looking for) but in fact the pool is in the owner’s garden, overlooked by their house and terrace where they spend much of their time. We returned more than once from an outing eager to cool off and plunge into the pool to find it occupied by the owners socialising with their guests and friends - which we did not expect and felt awkward for us especially with teenage/pre-teen daughters. The pool was in fact chlorinated, turned green and cloudy (though cleaned twice), the pool lights were broken, the one sun umbrella by the pool gave shade to just one of the loungers in the early morning offering no shade for the rest of the day. Were we disappointed? Yes.
Secondly, there was no proper shade to sit under outside the casitas (apart from woodland) and no air conditioning inside. During the heat wave when temperatures climbed from the high 30's into the 40’s on the veranda the absence of overhead shade around the casitas meant it was challenging to keep the interiors any cooler. An a/c unit is pictured in one photo hence not unreasonable to assume there would be some but it wasn’t functioning. On request our hosts provided a room fan (we restored it to working order). These conditions proved intolerable for our eldest daughter who suffered heat exhaustion and after a week of being hardly able to venture out, be by the pool, or cool off inside we put her on a flight home a week early in order to avoid risking her health.
The wifi was so intermittent that it was more often than not impossible to research or book excursions, look up flights or weather without using up mobile data.
Our hosts were well meaning, shared their wide-ranging knowledge of the island and were very attentive. The little dogs lived fully up to their famed reputation - their good natures and charming personalities cheered us up and compensated for the shortfalls of this holiday home which offers truly lovely aspects but not much real privacy to unwind in.
I am truly sorry that Karen was disappointed. As you will see from other reviews, most of our guests love the finca and her issue with privacy has never been raised before. The 70 m2 terrace outside the casita is completely private and there are many other nooks and crannies in our 24,000 m2 (six acres), such as the secluded BBQ terrace where Karen spent many peaceful hours arranging rocks and meditating. The salt pool is about 50m from the house and of course the two of us also use it, particularly on warm summer evenings, although during the hottest part of the day we tend to stay indoors. However, unlike most other guests, these rarely ventured out to explore the island so occupied the pool area most of the time. The extreme and exceptional heatwave, coupled with their over-liberal use of sun cream, turned the pool green twice so we were obliged to top up chlorine levels. Although we strongly advised their very pale-skinned eldest daughter (17) to stay out of the midday sun, she was more often than not by the pool in blazing sunshine, ate and drank almost nothing, so, I´m sorry to say, inevitably suffered as a result. To address the shade issue, I bought them two additional 6m x 6m horizontal sun shades to cover the entire casita terrace. These block some 90% of UV rays and provide an effective and welcome respite from the sun.
Finally, the wi-fi issue which Karen didn´t mention until their final day. Presumably it had been working fine until then since they consumed over 20Gb of data during their stay (more than we use in a month). Using both Android tablet and phone I usually obtain a stable speed of around 20Mbs in the casita, which is pretty fast out here in the campo. Unfortunately connections can sometimes be a tad flakey resulting in a slower response, particularly when guests stream videos or download large files.
Once again, I am sorry things weren´t as my guests wanted. This year extreme temperatures affected the whole of southern Europe but fortunately the temperatures are now back to normal for this time of year. By way of apology I offered a substantial discount on a future booking but am not sure this type of accommodation is entirely suitable for their specific requirements. We try our very best but unfortunately Karen was equally disappointed last year when they rented another house in the north of the island; perhaps a package hotel in a cooler climate will be more to their liking. Nonetheless, we will welcome them back any time.
Amazing little paradise in Palma.
We love this place, calm, quiet, great in every way. Best part, the owners Grahame and Graeme, they are so friendly, funny and absolutely lovely. Makes you want to move in always.
The casita is bigger than I thought, surrounded by nature. One morning we even saw four beautiful peacocks just outside the door, we picked lemons from the trees and enjoyed the pool. We stayed with our baby girl, in march and it was perfect, they provided everything we could need (baby stool etc). It was warm, they have heaters in every room (rare in Spain) plus a fireplace that we could use. Love love love this place, we will come back. Kram Karin, Carlos and Laura
Karin, Carlos and Laura were the most warm, wonderful guests we could ask for to kick off the summer. Baby Laura never stops smiling, Karin and Carlos two relaxed, friendly and happy souls. We miss them already and really look forward to seeing them again. The casita was left spotless - not easy when you have a lively youngster - and even left us an excellent bottle of Rioja (thank you again). Happy times for all of us.
A dream start to this wonderful island!
Well, what can I say? I will start with the bad..... I dont have a single bad thing to say about my time there......
We had the pleasure of staying in this Casita for 4 months and could have stayed for a year or more, not only is this close to the city (about 20 minutes on the bus that runs every 15 minutes!) yet really peaceful, beautiful location, easy access to all parts of the island, very spacious, well-equipped and comfortable large Caista, amazing pool and a good local bar.
Staying here felt like you were in a peaceful and tranquil location, we had many bbq's, late night swims under the stars and long walks around the grounds and into the orchard with an array of beautiful fruit!
Guappa, the owners dog comes to visit most days to say hello which is a great plus about this place, its relaxing and makes you feel like a million miles away from home but at the same time the Casita has that homely feel!
I can not recommend this place highly enough nor can I speak highly enough of the owners who will be friends for life!
Thank you again and see you soon
Thanks Sam and JP for your kind review - the cheque is in the post! Seriously, though, you have been great guests and I hope this gave you a good introduction to this lovely island. See you soon. G,G,G and G.
