Great location, lovely town, warm and cosy cottage
The host, Alan, is an exceptional host - very quick with communications both via Homeaway and on text message/whatsapp.
The cottage is located in the lovely Dartmoor town of Ashburton, with easy access to the A38 and to Exeter/Plymouth, the coast, the moor, etc. The town has lots of small shops and lots of places to eat and drink.
The cottage is only a short walk from the main high street, and has parking which is like gold dust around here!
The outdoor area wasn´t set up at Easter, so can´t comment on this - but there were good recycling boxes here too, which we appreciated plus a canvas bag supplied to take out shopping.
The kitchen is fully fitted and a thoughful welcome pack left - so, at Easter, Alan even left an Easter egg for our children (plus beer for the grown ups!) ... if possible, I wonder if you could pay a little extra for a necessity box of coffee pods, washing/dishwasher tabs, washing-up liquid, etc?
The living/dining room is comfortable for a family of 4 - there is a larger table than in the photographs, but not sure that the house would be large enough for 6 persons although there is a sofabed if needed.
The 2 bedrooms are upstairs and, as it´s an old cottage, the incline is very steep and the tread very narrow but the feeling upstairs is warm and cosy too (excellent heating system). The twin beds can be separate or linked together to make a double.
There is a family bathroom downstairs (off the kitchen) and a shower room upstairs in the back bedroom - all supplied with good quality towels.
The main issue for most would be the lack of WIFI. We were there for 5 nights and were unable to connect for the entire time. Whilst we were not too concerned, it would have been useful to access the interet without having to go into town and find somewhere in order to look for local activities, google, maps, etc
All in all a great place!
This cottage was warm and comfortable. Just what we needed to visit family near by and still have our own space. Quick access to Dartmoor for some lovely walks.
My only negative was the lack of internet which was distressing to my teenage children!
Lovely cottage; very clean and welcoming and equipped with everything you need for a short stay. The basked of basics (including a bottle of wine and a bottle of beer!) was much appreciated. We would definitely stay there next time we are in the county. Thank you, Alan.
Would certainly stay again
This cottage is beautifully kept and provided all that we needed. The welcome basket of essentials (fruit, milk, cereal, etc) was a lovely surprise and the kitchen really was as well-equipped as the description suggests. Al was very accommodating, easy to contact if/when needed, and kindly provided all the extras we needed for our small children (bed rail, stair gate and high chair for the 2yr old, and a cot and changing mat for the 3mth old). We have relatives in nearby Newton Abbot and this was an ideal base so that we could be close by but still had our own space; we would certainly stay here again for the next family get-together.
Lovely cottage with so much thought gone into making it feel like home and a wonderful welcome hamper waiting for us with a great selection of goodies , even something for our dogs .it’s a great location for exploring the surrounding countryside so much to see and do and the walks in the area are brilliant. Ashburton is a great town with plenty of choices for eating out .
Alan was more than helpful even before our arrival with plenty of helpful information regarding walks and places to visit in the area and was waiting to show us around when we arrived .
