A quirky cottage that takes you back in time
We really enjoyed our stay in this really atmospheric and quirky cottage. It has everything you need and is very spacious yet cosy at the same time
Mind your head, this medieval dwelling was designed for small people!
Thank you for your review, so pleased you enjoyed your stay. People were obviously shorter when the house was built, it all adds to the character of the house.
Quirky and delightful vacation
If history and uniqueness excite you, this is the ideal vacation property. Our family included four adults, two teens and a child, and we stayed in the Longhouse side of this magnificent property. Situated on a working farm, the house is close enough to Launceston to get groceries on a daily basis, but far enough away from everything to feel utterly secluded. The charming garden is brimming with perennials, and overlooks a valley at the bottom of which is a beautiful little river. The house is clean and comfortable, but the jewel in the crown is the Great Hall, in which we ate supper by candlelight each night, just like the inhabitants would have in the 15th century when it was built. Beautifully restored, with original murals, this is an absolute treasure of a property to stay in.
The house is indeed quirky - you need to learn to duck to avoid low beams, and step over thresholds, not to mention adjust to uneven floors and staircases that require full attention going up and down. It is not at all ideal for the infirm or unsteady, but for able bodied guests it's all part of the experience. The owners welcome well-behaved dogs, which is a bonus, and there are many dog-friendly beaches to visit as well.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and the owners could not have been nicer or more receptive. Fresh flowers throughout the house, welcoming tea and biscuits, and candles for the Great Hall were thoughtful touches. Highly recommend! If your party is larger than 7, the Tudor half of the house will sleep another 4 guests, so you can have the run of the entire property by opening up the door into the Great Hall.
Thank you for your lovely review, it was wonderful that your family were so appreciative of the house with all its quirkiness.

Amazing historical building
We really enjoyed our stay at the Long house. The house is one of a kind; the grand hall was an amazing room and it was lovely to find out about the building’s history. The setting of the home was really nice and we enjoyed an evening walk down to the river. Would definitely recommend and hope we can stay again.
