Perfect location. Absolutely charming. Wonderful host. All that we hoped for and more.
Our hostess Amelia could not have been more helpful, gracious and welcoming. The house was built in the 1600s and was every bit as charming and rustic as we could imagine. Big family table in the kitchen, big giant living room where people can gather and share News of the Day. The second floor had many bedrooms. The third floor has been converted into a single spacious (size-of-the-whole-house) bedroom with a king-sized bed. But for us--the cottage's biggest plus was its location: Just perfect for running day trips to different parts of Brittany and Normandy. *Very* short drives to Mont St. Michel. And St. Malo. And Fougeres. Close enough to reach Brittany's south coast and the Carnac Alignment stones ... in a couple of hours. The famous Tapestry of Bayeux is a bit more than an hour away. And who knew how much fun a trip to Ploumanach's pink granite coast would turn out to be? What a pleasant surprise! The cottage is out in the farmlands, but major highways are close enough to make every day-trip easy. And there's a grocery store just a few minutes' away. But don't stock up too much at the grocery store... instead remember that many of the medieval towns have a very active farmers' market in the town center. With AMAZING fresh vegetables. And meats. And fruits. And ... well ... we would stay there again in a heartbeat. We loved it.
Lovely relaxing holiday
We spent a week in August at this lovely little cottage, which was clean, spacious (for 7 people) and very well stocked. The property had oodles of rustic charm with the added bonus of the really spacious and airy loft area. The outside areas were perfect for barbecues and al fresco dining with sun on one side and shade on the other at different times during the day. Sky TV for the late evening was an added bonus and a great selection of DVDs. Amelia was able to help us with anything we needed including advice about where to go and what to do. We visited the American and German cemeteries (both close by) & Cobac water park. Carolles beach was frequented almost every day. This sandy beach has great facilities without being too crowded and the kids (and adults) really enjoyed the waves/swimming. We loved our stay in France. Thanks so much Tonya and Amelia. I have to also add that Tonya was very responsive, helpful, informative and flexible prior to our holiday which really added positively to our experience.
Home from Home.
Loved our stay here. Has everything you need for a comfortable homely week away. Kitchen is Well equipped...has anything you need and plenty of it all. Towels, bedding, cleaning stuff all provided. Great assortment of games/dvd’s And books. Plenty of space and comfy furniture. My kids loved having a double bed each for the week! The hamlet is lovely, quiet and rural but a short drive to most beaches/towns etc and 5 mins from big supermarket. Will definitely love to return one day. We had great weather when we visited also so went to beaches and are outside in garden a lot. Thanks so much for a great stay.
Thank you so much for your very positive review. We look forward to welcoming you again.
Rustic house, ideal to find peace and quiet, and equipped with all modern facilities one might possibly need. Very approachable landlady. Would come again.
We would be delighted to welcome you again. Thank you for your kind words and for choosing to stay at La Petite Maison.
Spacious and well-appointed and lovely location
This was our third time here. We came with another family. There's plenty of space and a lovely big kitchen with everything you could want, including a Nespresso machine. We loved the patios either side of the house - one for morning sun, the other for the evening. That said, the weather wasn't great when we were there, sadly, but they're both very sheltered spaces.
Our favourite places from the house are Mont Saint Michel, the beach at Carolles (a superb beach), Fougeres Castle... The Normandy beaches and cemeteries are about an hour and a half away but very do-able. Saint-James itself has a beautiful cemetery that conveys just the right gravity and thought.
Despite being about three minutes away from the motorway, the house is in a stunningly quiet and rural spot - you don't hear any noise at all.
Thank you once again for choosing La Petite Maison for your holiday destination. We continue to strive to ensure that our guests have everything they may require whilst staying with us, and improve year after year.
We look forward to welcoming you again.
Characterful, comfortable, extremely well-equipped
This was our second visit to this cottage - we loved it so much the first time. The owner's daughter, who lives nearby, was extremely helpful both on our arrival and during our visit. The welcome pack was hugely useful, as we arrived quite late in the day. The house was immaculate. Despite being only five minutes away from the motorway, the location is incredibly quiet and rural, tucked in a very rurual little valley.
The house is full of character and very spacious. We were joined by some friends and their children this time and, despite the gloomy weather, the house was more than big enough to absorb eight of us.
There is a very large kitchen with absolutely EVERYTHING you could possibly need. There are stacks of crockery and glassware - it certainly caters for more than the number of people the house can sleep.
The bedrooms are beautiful and the beds are all extremely comfortable, with very high-quality bedlinen, duvets and pillows. The top room feels luxurious and snug with its own bathroom, kitchenette, table and chairs and large L-shaped sofa - a real retreat. It also has lovely views of the countryside.
Despite the rural location, the house is within easy distance of many of the ancient and more recent historical and very interesting sites Normandy and Brittany have to offer. Our favourites (so far) are:
Beaches along the west side of the Cotentin peninsula (such as Carolles - lovely sand and rock pools)
The landing beaches
and finally the small but perfectly formed American cemetary in the local town of Saint-James.
The only very slight downside is that the garden is not secure to the road, because of a neighbouring property - not because the owners have left it that way! That said, our six-year-old completely understood not to go near the road and was perfectly safe wondering back and forth to the swing!
We would definitely come again and I would whole-heartedly recommend it.
Thank you for your brilliant review. We look forward to welcoming you again sometime in the near future.
