I would like to thank Kevin for allowing us to use his home. Bert met us at the airport and took us shopping, we then got to the villa and wow what a place, the people in the neighbourhood were all friendly and offered advise on where to go. The island is a place of dreams and would definitely go back to Barbados and stay at Orions View. Thank you again for the use of your amazing house. 😁🌞
It is true - if you appreciate amazing views, friendly people and space designed to maximize the beauty of the place, you will appreciate this house. Having private bathrooms and views from each bedroom was the icing on the cake. We hated to leave but hope to return!
Beautiful East Coast
As other reviewers have noted, transportation (taxi, rental car or bus) will be required. Bert (the house manager) greeted us at the airport, there was a bit of confusion regarding our pick-up and our transport to the rental, but once sorted it was all ok. Bert waited at Grocery store with us which was perfect.
The property is as advertised. It's in a quiet, rural residential setting, approx 20 minutes drive from the airport. Upon entering the front door, a clear view to the back patio and the ocean greet you. The house is quite large- more than enough space for our group of 4. The 5 bedrooms, all with en-suite baths and all but 1 bedroom have their own terrace; as stated only 2 of the bedrooms have air conditioning (as of the time of this review). We found the decor in many of the rooms (including bedrooms) to be a bit worn and understated, but the rental appeared clean and organized. We found the bed small with very basic bedding. In the master, the jacuzzi was not working at the time we visited. If that is important to you, you may wish to inquire to see if it has been repaired. The local swim at a nearby beach but the surf is quite rough. Along the East-facing coast, there is a constant, warm breeze and the views from house, spectacular.
We enjoyed the bluetooth for music and many meals on the terrace. We also spent time enjoying the pool and adjoining patio. The pool appeared clean, it is deep and refreshing. The patio is large needs, but a group larger than 4 might find 4 lounge chairs insufficient. The patio furniture and coushins, we thought, could stand to be freshened/replaced. There are 2 beautiful wicker lounge chairs on a second floor terrace, one of which we moved down to the main patio. We thought that the rental could use more patio furniture of that caliber and some greenery (perhaps potted planting) to make it a bit more inviting and provide privacy.
The kitchen is well equipped. The appliances were all in good working order. For those who really love coffee, you will find a full-sized, drip coffee-maker and you will also find a regular-size blender (no coffee bean grinder, so purchase it ground).
If you want to pay for daily cleaning services check with Kevin to arrange as he was very receptive to our request. Thank-you Kevin.
Bert was always available if we needed anything- Just a phone call away. The owner was responsive and checked in with us part-way through our stay.
Overall, very enjoyable 4.5 stars
Orion’s View is a fantastic property
Orion’s View is in the top 3 of VRBO rentals that I have used over the past years. The property has everything needed to provide a relaxing vacation in paradise. The villa is very clean, and Bert is there to ensure things run smoothly. Kevin was extremely easy to work with, and provided many tips as to things to do and places not to be missed. I was able to get a rental car via Mark, that was almost brand new, for less than any of the big rental companies. Jackie’s restaurant is across the street, and can provide a home cooked meal, far cheaper than any of the local restaurants. The view from the pool and veranda area of the rocky coast and blue waters is simply fantastic and over whelming. Many photo’s were taken from this area. The breeze coming through the bedroom doors negated the red for any air conditioning. The wifi worked well throughout the villa, and the ability to use the house phone for Stateside calls is also a plus. I just can’t say enough about how pleased everyone was with this property.
Lovely spacious house in gorgeous location away from the tourist traps
We were 6 friends sharing Orions View for a week of sunshine and relaxation and we got just that! The house is located on a pretty rugged coastline so views are amazing but there is no real beach to speak of. The pool and outside area is lovely though and was perfect for us. We did venture out to stretch our legs and met some lovely locals along the way. Wandered to the lighthouse and local mini mart.. mostly non perishables in there so recommend the main supermarket about 15 mins away for ‘proper’ shopping. Even better, support the locals and have jackie across the street cook for you! She looked after us brilliantly well with traditional cooking for breakfast and dinner! Smooth arrival and securing of a taxi with Bert and whilst we had a couple of things we wanted sorting on arrival, Kevin and Bert were all over it and everything was sorted the next day. We holiday in the Caribbean a lot and this house, compared to others we have stayed in, is a well maintained and comfortable family space. No rental in the Caribbean is perfect but this is a really lovely home. It is set in a very ‘local’ environment which we loved but if you are expecting a tourist trap, you won’t necessarily like it. Think local animals on the land next door and a few roaming goats visiting the garden! Breeze from the sea is amazing!! We never used the AC at all- it is in the downstairs master bedroom and one of the upstairs bedrooms.. we never needed it in either, lots of fans keep the sea breeze circulating. Easy access to local buses..we spent a day on the beach at Browne’s.. Lobster Alive. 20usd for 2 loungers and a big brolly with a drinks voucher thrown in. We ate dinner here on our last night.. bloody amazing food! Approx 35usd in a taxi each way. Not sure what else we can add that is useful.. we loved our week at Orions View and would definitely stay again.
We have visited Barbados many times over the last 30 years. This however was our first visit staying in St. Philip. It was a family vacation with our adult children, their spouses, and two grandchildren. The house was spectacular and the weather and vistas were stellar. Kevin, the owner checked in with us to make sure everything was as it should be. Bert, his on site manager was very attentive throughout our stay without being intrusive. Jackie across the street cooks a mean Marlin fish or Chicken dinner negating the need to go to Oistins for the fish fry,,, cheaper and better. Her Karaoke night on the Errol Barrow holiday was special. We discovered our Son-in-law was a closet Rock star as the crowd went wild with his renditions of "Home for a Rest" and "Island Song". Beer is a very important staple and Jackie supplies it either by the bottle, or by the case at very competitive prices.
The "Big House" as we called it was phenomenal. Spotless and yes BIG. Although we were four couples and two children we never had a sense of being on top of each other. 4 of the 5 bedrooms have large private balconies three of which face the sea. We did find the one bedroom facing the street without air conditioning was rendered too hot to sleep in.
The Kitchen is very well appointed with modern gas appliances and ample pots and pans. We had several memorable BBQs on the Weber grill and roasts in the convection oven. Our meat we brought from Canada was our best decision as we have found Beef, Pork, and Ham here very expensive. Ensure however you acquire a Ministry of Agriculture permit to do so.
As beautiful as the house was, we spent all our time outside by the pool, or on the balconies enjoying the cool soothing trade winds and the stunning ocean views.
The kids loved the farm animals in the field next door. There were cows, sheep, a pig and her piglets. The cow and sheep would occasionally visit and graze in the backyard by the pool. There were lots of monkeys, cats and dogs and a lone mongoose.
Our last night we went to the East Point Bar and grill . There were seventeen of us and the food was delicious and the service gracious and prompt. At the end of the evening we were personally escorted through the fields back to the house under a starlit sky with the ever prominent constellation Orion guiding our may.
In closing, the village of Marley Vale is quaint, its residents delightful, and at times lively. We will be back!
