Worst Experience. DO NOT STAY HERE. Property was not as described.
First of all, the property/owner sent a "picture" of himself through an email and wanted to communicate via phone, not the official VRBO site. When my daughter and I arrived at the property, we were met by an older gentleman, not the man in the picture. The property was not what he had told us we were renting. It was supposed to be a "stand alone" apartment (picture of small apartment in the back of the house) not the basement. When I questioned him about it, he said no that was just an office space used for storage. He proceeded to show us the "room" in the basement of the house. We had to walk through the front door of the house to get to it, as there was no secure separate entrance to the basement. He also told us that he "did not have a key" for the side door but would have one made for us. Upon entering the "room," it was nothing like the one pictured. The area behind the red curtains is not a window but actually an exterior block wall with all the wiring. The "sleeper couch" was not a pull out and barely big enough to sit on, too small for anyone to sleep on and it was very dirty. There were bars of used soap and old toiletries left in the bathroom. No clean towels. One old sheet and dirty comforter on the bed. The one blanket in the closet smelled like body odor. All the window blinds were broken and no blind on the bathroom window. Also no WiFI set up or TV as was advertised. There were no toiletries or utensils provided other than a small microwave and dirty coffee pot. It was obvious the property had not been cleaned in a very long time. When I told him that it was unacceptable, he offered to let us stay upstairs, which was just as filthy as the basement. I told him we could not stay there, as I did not feel it was safe and it was dirty. He said I would have to arrange for a refund through VRBO and that he would call them. I contacted VRBO and was told any refund would have to come from him personally and of course he refused to answer any calls or emails when I asked him for even a partial refund since our fee had included a cleaning fee and a pet fee and we had already paid in full for a 12-night stay. I feel we were deceived by the property manager and were definitely entitled to at least a partial refund, as the property was not a secure property or clean.
