Beautiful views from loft apartment
The apartment was spotlessly clean and exactly as per the photos on the website. It was well equipped and spacious, but would benefit from some air conditioning. We were there in a heatwave (34 degrees C!) and the fans provided did help, but air-con would have been better! The big balcony with it's huge opening doors also helped to cool the apartment and filled it with light.
Cristina was very welcoming, but allowed us our own space.
The views from the balcony were lovely, as the house is high above Menaggio in a suburban area called Loveno. The road up is very steep and you really need a car - others reviewers have said it is walkable from the town, but I wouldn't say so, in part because it is dangerous in many areas and the traffic is very fast.
Once in Menaggio though, a reliable bus service will take you up and down the lake road and you can easily get across the lake on one of many different sorts of boats which put in to the harbour.
A fun way to travel down to Lenno is the 'Trombetta Express', a small road train. It stops at the entrance to Villa Carlotta and if you go on a Tuesday you can combine it with a visit to Lenno market.
If the weather is hot you could visit Menaggio Lido, where you can swim in the pool and in the lake. (There is also a children's pool) The entrance fee is expensive though, so if you think you'll be going a lot, ask for a pass with 15 entrances on it. You pay up front, but it cuts the cost of entry quite considerably. You need a swim hat for the pool.
There are loads of restaurants in Menaggio - take your pick from many in the square, for all budgets; also lovely Gelaterias. On a Friday night there is a craft market along the lakeshore and music in the squares.
The local Tourist Information produce a free weekly sheet (in various languages, including English), detailing what's on that week and making suggestion for things to do - well worth picking up.
There is a Conad supermarket in town with a barrier controlled car park (get your ticket validated at the check out or you won't be able to get out!)
There is plenty to see and do in this area, from trekking (get walk suggestions from the tourist information) boating on the lake, swimming, relaxing, visiting villas or eating out.
If you have a car and are up for a road trip we would highly recommend driving north to the Acquafraggia waterfalls - take you swimming costumes - you won't be disappointed!
Beautiful place to stay
A lovely place to holiday with everything you need and more... Beautiful views from living area.. Comfy bed and spacious area to relax. Cristina was very promt to reply to any questions and helped us with a problem we had with the Autostrade toll we had from our journey. Great to have parking and highly recommend a stay here...
