Spectacular house in a spectacular setting
Ideal location if you want to check out for a week (or more). Luxury appointments in all four bedrooms, great for either a couple or up to two families. Constant breezes keep the bugs away and the perfect temp. If you want to do nothing but look at blue water and listen to the waves, this is your spot.
We are delighted you enjoyed your stay at Villa Joya.
The island of Carriacou offers a lot more than peacefulness. Being in the Grenadines, it has some of the best scuba, sailing, kite surfing conditions in the caribbean. And the island is a short boat trip away from many spectacular places to swim and enjoy, including the famous Tobago Cays where scenes from The Pirates of the Caribbean were shot. The island of Carriacou itself has beautiful beaches, a vibrant capital town and marina, cultural and food festivals, and of course, carnival, and for sporting fans, a inter-island 20/20 cricket tournament.
We spent a wonderful week at Villa Joya enjoying every minute of our stay.
The short flight from Grenada in a small (8 passenger) plane is an experience in itself and we were met at the tiny airport with a warm smile by the Property Manager, Alison, who was a mine of information about the island and through whom we arranged our boat trips. The Villa is in a lovely location feeling secluded and very private, with beautiful gardens and views and a constant cooling sea breeze. The huge open plan living area is designed in such a way as to feel like being outside while inside – it is stylish and luxurious (and impeccably kept by the housekeeper, Barbara) but at the same time has a very homely feel.
The island itself is a pleasure to explore, the main town charming and the people friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed shopping for locally grown fruit and veg from the street vendors with stalls dotted around town and fresh fish from the daily catch at the fish market to barbecue at the Villa.
There are idyllic, quiet beaches to visit on Carriacou itself but if you feel like venturing further the boat trips to (mostly deserted) surrounding islands are spectacular. The boat trips we took included lunch and catering for particular diets (for one of us vegan) was no problem and the meals delicious. Our eagle eyed boat Captain and guide, Mojo, had an encyclopaedic knowledge of the area and marine and wildlife – there was nothing to be seen that he did not spot and point out to us! Swimming with the turtles and around the coral reef at Tobago Cays was magical and not to be missed.
We were very impressed by the lack of commercialisation and desire to preserve the beautiful natural environment – especially striking in the mangroves with their totally untouched oyster beds and which provide a natural shelter for boats during storms.
Whether you want to just relax around a pool, sipping rum punch in a lovely setting with beautiful views or go further afield and be more adventurous, this is a perfect place. We had a truly memorable holiday and the only downside was having to leave – you will want to go back!
Hidden Gem on my favourite Carribbean Island!
I was luck enough to stay for a week in the stunningly beautiful Villa Joya recently and loved every moment of my vacation! The Villa is beautifully decorated... Clean, simple and extremely comfortable. Its open plan design and position gives great views over to Petit Martinique whilst enjoying the constant cool breeze from the ocean!
I was welcomed by Barbara, the Housekeeper who made me extremely welcome throughout my stay and kept the villa impeccably.
I cannot recommend Villa Joya more highly
We are glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to seeing you again at Villa Joya.
Beautiful villa - spacious, stylish and secluded
We visited as a family group of two adults, three grown up children, aged 25, 23 and 21, and my 85 year-old mother.
After landing in Grenada, we were whisked onto our small charter plane for a 20-minute flight to Carriacou. At the charming local airport we were greeted with drinks and cold towels and a spectacular drive across the island to Villa Joya. The first impression of the villa as you crest the hill at the top of the drive is breathtaking. We were shown into the spectacular high ceilinged living room and immediately knew we had made the right choice.
A constant and cooling Atlantic breeze meant we were able to sit in and outside day and night without fear of mosquitos, an absolute delight.
All the bedrooms were beautifully appointed and there is one very large bedroom with extra lounge beds that can take four adults comfortably. The other bedrooms all have spectacular ocean views and two of them have their own terrace.
The staff at the villa were attentive to our every need and warm and friendly, like all the local people that we met.
During our ten-day stay, we discovered Carriacou's beautiful (and unspoilt) beaches. Sometimes we were the only ones on the beach, and even found ourselves alone on the stunning nearby islands. The stand out trip was on an old schooner to the Tabago Cays (a location for the Pirates of the Caribbean movie) where we swam with turtles, trekked on an island populated with large iguanas and jumped from the deck into crystal clear waters. The reef snorkelling was incredible. So much to do here that we ran out of time.
Our way back through Grenada, where we stopped for lunch, felt overcrowded and touristy after the peace and simplicity of Carriacou.
All in all, a really memorable holiday - a perfect combination of adventure and just hanging out at the villa. Thinking we may buy a house here for our retirement!
