Excellent in every way
My visit to the NY Sheep and Wool Festival was made so much more lovely because of this home. It was a wonderful base for us, super cozy and exactly what we needed. Barbara is a wonderful host!
They were great guests; kept in touch, cleaned up, and even left a thank you note and asked to come back. Doesn't get much better for hosts than this group. Thanks! See you soon.
Great location and gracious hosts!
Stayed one night in Rhinebeck for a culinary class. Gracious hosts and great location to walk to dinner and enjoy a night in the town.
Thank you for coming, please come back any time!
Great house, great village location
The house is charming—we immediately felt at home. It is literally in Rhinebeck village and a five minute walk to lovely shops and restaurants. Bruce and Barbara were terrific hosts and were very anxious to make us feel welcomed and comfortable—and they succeeded. Our family was celebrating a special event and we could not have picked a better location. Thank you, Barbara and Bruce.
Oh, so sweet; thanks, please come again. I knew this was important weekend; you are welcome any time to come back and we'll repeat our hospitality. I am so glad you loved my house, next time the front porch and back porch will be repainted and more flowers blooming. Everyone should have delightful guests like you. Best and here's to 40 more years of wedded bliss! Barbara
Perfect house, perfect location
The house, location, and owner were all great! 2nd time staying and will definitely be back!
You and your golfing buddies are always welcome; you are the best foursome I know! You take care of the house, are complimentary and so neat I almost forgot you were there. Come back soon and often.
Charming Home in the Heart of Rhinebeck
We visit Rhinebeck for the Sinterklaas festival every year (8 years now) - and decided to try Barbara’s home given the great location, which made the weekend much easier for us and our kids to enjoy all the festivities. We enjoyed Barbara’s house - and would recommend the property as long as you are comfortable staying at someone’s actual home as this is not a typical VRBO-dedicated rental. Because this is Barbara’s home, she is very careful, which is totally understandable...Anyway, we will likely book again for next year!
Thank you for coming and loving my home. I appreciate your carefulness greatly and next time we can throw caution to the wind! Just joking, but I look forward to having you again and getting you some extra treats and a discount for your return visit. I hope you return; you will see new carpeting in one bedroom, new decking out back and some additional changes. Thank you again. Happy New Year and all the best! Barbara
Nice albeit a bit overly precious
Barbara kindly accepted my husband and baby daughter and me to stay even though apparently she normally doesn't accept children. We were coming up last minute to do some volunteer work and attend an event. The house is extremely well located, walkable to town. It's an antique Victorian, decorated a bit like a dollhouse (in fact, there's a big dollhouse in one of the rooms). Plenty of space and Barbara thoughtfully provided cider and bagels, which were great for a snack, and some other cereals and cookies which were nice but we didn't eat. The fridge was stocked with kitchen basics and there's a good coffee machine. Our only issue was that Barbara and her boyfriend were quite nervous -- maybe it's because we were bringing a baby, who we of course watched carefully and never caused a problem. Barbara's boyfriend insisted on walking us through the house rules extensively in person when we arrived, which I've never experienced in years of renting people's homes, and also had wanted to come to the house to check it before we left, although we ended up having to leave early. All of this communicated a sense of mistrust out of the gate. Then Barbara was quite nervous when I hadn't received a message for the house's second payment and called me on my cell before I'd even received the HomeAway payment request. It felt excessive-- there's a certain amount of trust that needs to be extended when you rent your home, and it felt like Barbara and her boyfriend were on some level uncomfortable with having people in the home, which was especially stressful considering the incredibly steep nightly rate. Not the easiest rental experience we've ever had -- and we were EXTRA careful making sure the home was in great condition when we left -- but all in all it's a nice home in a fantastic location.
As stated in the description and shown in the photos, this is a home that is lived in, greatly loved and used. This is not a hotel where all rooms have few furnishings, are the same or staged. All 20 other reviews are 5-stars. Guests seem to have appreciated the kindness of being warmly greeted, asked when departure would be good for them and thanked at the end; shown around for their comfort to know where there are such things as more fresh towels, toilet paper and Nespresso capsules; or how to operate the AC, Nest thermometer and not lock themselves out. Such gestures reflect the original intent of the sharing economy when it started, which was for people to be able to stay together in a home as well as follow sharing-site rules such as paying refundable deposits and other fees in advance of arrival for the homeowner's protection and following simple house rules requested.
Localisation
