Great house with spectacular views
The house was very clean and well appointed. The linens, towels, area rugs, and furnishings were high quality. The house was quite warm and had really hot water which are important to me. The views from the back deck and yard were amazing. You could even see the Grand Tetons towards the south. We would definitely recommend this house for anyone.
Very nice hosts and spot to unwind after a long day! Had a moose ease by us right at dark while we were grilling out one evening and saw a black bear the next day while driving up the mountain in the snow!
High mountain adventure for sure
Our Yellowstone vacation experience was great. Pam and John were very attentive to us in case we needed anything. My husband and I celebrated our anniversary in Island Park and they they gave us a bottle of wine to celebrate and a sweet note. Our biggest adventure was going up and down the hill with our little sedan. Over all it was an awesome experience.
Fun Mountain Getaway
We had a great time on our trip. The property was just as described and looked just like the pictures. Very clean, plenty of towels, dishes, pots, pans and pantry items for cooking. The road to the cabin is a bit rough...so, make sure you have a vehicle that can handle a rocky dirt road. Doc and Pam were excellent hosts. They live on the property next door which is convenient if you run into any issues. The only feedback we had was the upstairs bedroom was a bit warm at night, some ceiling fans to circulate the air would have been great. :) Also, since the deck is off of the upstairs bedroom, if we wanted to eat on the deck we had to transport everything up and down a flight of stairs. We are younger so stairs aren't an issue for us...but, if you have issues with your knees you need to know you will be up and down a full flight of stairs a lot because the kitchen, bathroom, and main living areas are all downstairs.
Our Trip To the Top of DEATH MOUNTAIN
Our trip started without any problems, until we arrived at the bottom of "The Mountain". The road to the top of the mountain was gravel, one car length wide, and extremely difficult to drive up. I'm not talking about 100 yards of road either.. It was a very long stretch of road, probably close if not over half a mile up a mountain that a non- 4x4 vehicle would have trouble getting up (as my friends did). One wrong turn on this road and your trip to Wyoming could be ended due to certain death of your vehicle plummeting to the road.
The place itself is a garage that has been converted to an apartment. Cool idea, but in the mountains, a very COLD idea. Our friends basically froze each night as they slept on the couch (which is a positive, heard it was comfy at least). The decor inside was that of Mexico meets Utah, whatever that means. Nothing says home away from home like staples into the walls that hang up the Mexican style rugs!
We booked this place for two reasons; laundry and food. The laundry was A++, can't complain. The food, well, to say the least, it is very difficult to use the stove as it will barely heat up a pot to boil water. Expect twice the time to cook anything that you would at home. Think twice about using the grill outside because we were blessed to run out of propane about halfway through cooking our chicken breasts.
The owners were overly hands on. The owners are 100 yards away in their own home and therefore tend to check in on you a lot more than you would want them to. I prefer showing up and being on my own, living my best life. However, we showed up and had to talk with owners while they made the bed.
When booking, pay attention to the # of guests box. Never in my experience of booking through another avenue did the # of guests matter. We booked for 2 (gf & I) but had friends decide to join us later. Pam confronted us & made us pay an extra cash for them staying. I was under the impression that my money booked the venue and that "sleeps 4" meant 4 allowed. Also, Pam forced us to pay cash instead of using the website, likely to avoid taxes. LOL
The pictures are also misleading. Picture 50/50 for instance is not even a photo of the garage.. I don't believe that access to the hot tub was even open to us and it is very misleading. Also, the views of mountains are not visible unless maybe you were on the roof of the garage because of the trees surrounding the area. I imagine those are also taken from the main house.
High Mountain Drama
We offer the only high mountain experience (at a great value) in the West Yellowstone area. Not
only do our guests love the comfortable and clean accommodations, they are enchanted by being surrounded by nature, where the only sounds they hear are the owls, elk, hawks, and song birds, and the only things they see are moose, deer, elk, fox, bear, and chipmunks.
Fun to drive up fun to drive down. Our listing’s 50 photos faithfully show our guests what they can expect at our High Mountain Adventure. We take great pride in providing our guests a most exceptional adventure;
This being said, the review published above was written to retaliate for having to pay for extra persons that they tried to sneak onto the property. We should have listened to Vrbo who advised that we cancel the reservation and send the group back down the mountain.
The reviewer signed a booking contract for TWO persons. The cleaning fee was waived because they said they would leave the cabin exactly like they found it. They did not live up to this agreement They said they would be keeping long hours in the Park and only needed a place to lay their head. They loved the High Mountain Adventure and the great price they said. They understood that a mountain road accessed the property. No problem they said.
As good samaritans, we allowed the reviewer’s unauthorized friends to stay with the understanding that they pay the published extra guests fee, which he agreed to. (They had the option of paying with credit card. Paying through Vrbo after check in was not an option. However, the reviewer’s intention was Pam spoke with the group at the base of the mountain as they were leaving saying that the right thing to do was pay what they agreed to pay.
Vehicles have been traveling up and down our road since 1963. There has never been an incident.
The most comical assertion in this review is that the downstairs was so COLD. They stayed during a heat wave and our downstairs maintained a perfect 70 degrees. If they want it at 80, we have two extra heaters. The stove works perfectly. Never a complaint. We keep extra bottles of propane. We are always on call to assist our guests. In fact we only saw these folks briefly and never heard from them, not even a text message. And for the decor: our photos show it perfectly, if you don’t like Southwest look, choose a log cabin with a moose head.
John and Pam were welcoming and helpful. The house is more like one bedroom but sleeps 4 very comfortably. The second sleeping area is within the open floor plan of the kitchen and dining room. The place was clean and comfortable and definitely worth the price. Well stocked, has coolers you can use, super quiet location. Road is a bit dicey but manageable. Close to west Yellowstone entrance where we travelled 5 out of our 6 days. The other day we enjoyed what their area has to offer-great horseback riding at Harriman State Park, and nice quiet hikes close by. Download a hiking app and it will come up with some really nice places to hike. Beautiful country!
