A Relaxing Step Back in Time!
I have loved the older log cabins ever since vacationing with my parents in them when I was young. The ambiance is special and this log cabin has been lovingly preserved over the years by its family. It was the perfect place to work on writing my life story, do a little fishing, enjoy the north woods, and listen to the snap, crackle, pop of a real wood fire. Gratiot Lake has crystal clear water and was not being heavily used while I was there making it even more peaceful. I appreciated the beauty of the antique furnishings and can't help but imagine all the fun and laughs that people have shared there thru the years. I really enjoyed my stay and hope you will too. A special thanks go to the owners for sharing this property with others!
The cabin was super cozy and the kitchen was well stocked with all of the essentials. The fireplace was nice as it was cold and we even had snow one day! It was great to be able to dock our boat right in front of the cabin and the walleye fishing was awesome!
Beautiful view of the lake. Wonderful getaway.
If you are looking for a relaxing stay at a place with beautiful views & seclusion, this is the right place!
Quaint and perfectly remote with a smidgen of rustic.
My family of 5 absolutely loved this cabin and it's remoteness. Gave us time to spend with our children away from our hectic daily lives. Was nice to reconnect and actually listen to and appreciate each other. I would have to say this was hands down our favorite family vacation. No pressure, just total relaxation, fishing, campfires, waking up to the Lake, Copper Harbor and the beach at Eagle Harbor. The cabin was perfectly sized for us and cute as a button! Thanks for allowing us to enjoy your home.
BEWARE OF LOSING DEPOSIT!
The owner is security deposit shopping, beware.... or add it to the price of your stay. The housekeeper reported a bad smell in the cottage and she had to work extra hours to "air" the cottage out. There was a late departure because there was a 4 foot snow and ice bank blocking the drive. Who is responsible for snow removal? Had I been physically unable to shovel the snow myself, I would still be stranded. Had to hand shovel the driveway to be able to leave the property.... the neighbor was using a tractor. The owner kept ALL of the security deposit for me to shovel his drive! Apparently, the housekeeper had to sit in her warm car and watch for an hour so I was charged a "late departure". Additionally, she also complained because the fire was extinguished with water and it took her more time to clean the fire place.... I din't know there was a charge for leaving the fire in a safe condition? Pretty weak stuff for a Yooper. The cottage is pretty beat up, full of flies (even in the winter) and basically "well worn out". Which is great, but not for the price they are asking and the reasons why the owner retained the security deposit. Something is fishy here and I guarantee I am not the only one that was robbed of my security deposit by the owner. It seems like the perfect scheme to me... if you are interested in the place, I would just add the cost of the security deposit into what you are paying because you will never see it again. To be clear, they treat this place like a cottage on Mackinac Island, but it is an old dumpy cabin. Which is nice, but ya know, they are asking/taking too much. You are better off camping then staying here.
Our family can’t remember the last time a guest forfeited a damage deposit, and we’ve never had a guest so disrespectful to our property or to us. We also never had to respond to such a false and misleading guest review before. One only has to compare our many five-star reviews with this one to see how our guests appreciate our efforts for a first-rate guest experience, every time, at our log home on Gratiot Lake. We just don’t have enough advance information to know when to decline a reservation from such a person. Our negative experience with this person began with our cabin Nest smoke alarm system going off within hours of his arrival, and ended with having to mail him his personal property after he left. We thank all our other guests for taking such good care of our home.
