My wife and I have been to Maui 5 times in the past 40 years. This by far was our most relaxing ( no children, no grandchildren, etc. 😂). The condo was perfect for us. It was right next door to The Whaler Village. If you don’t want to drive to eat, just go next door to Hula Grill, Leilani’s and Monkey Pod. We went to all three and twice to Leilanis. The only place we drove to eat was The Gazebo, Dukes and MaMas Fish House. The condo is fully equipped and clean. If you are hikers like us you can hike into Lahaina 3 1/2 miles from the condo to downtown and have breakfast at Grindz located in a strip mall with great breakfast food. There are 2 beach chairs, umbrella and beach towels that we used. They were all in excellent condition. Thanks Doug for making our 40th wedding anniversary our best time in Maui. PS - We told our kids about going to MaMas Fish House. Upon our surprise our kids contacted the restaurant and told them that they will pay the bill including gratuity 😁. When we got home my daughter-in-law told us that she had a dream that we spent $1000 🤪
My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and it was great! We really enjoyed that Doug provided beach accessories and we were able to take advantage of their use, which made it extremely convenient for us. The memory foam mattress definitely made for a good night sleep! Overall, we really enjoyed ourselves and will probably book again in the future.
Whaler 365 Spring Break
My teenagers and I had a great time at the Whaler over Spring break. My wife and I have stayed at the Whaler before, but it was the first trip to any of the islands for our kids. Our condo had everything we needed and then some. The studio was very comfortable and clean. The beach equipment was a huge bonus for us. We used the chairs, boogie board, snorkeling gear, and towels. The TV looks great, but I'm happy to say we didn't even turn it on! I believe this rental was an amazing value, but that really doesn't do it justice. I can't put a price on the value of our experience and memories. Thanks so much!
Wonderful place. Very clean, has everything you need for your stay. We didn’t cook but if we needed, all was available! Side ocean view from the balcony, but we knew that. Bed is very comfortable. We never stayed in a studio before but after this place we realized that it’s so perfect for 2 people. Location is so great and staying in this studio in the middle of Kā’anapali beach was all we needed. Thank u for letting us be your guests!
UNIT HADN'T BEEN CLEANED UPON ARRIVAL!!!!
We arrived for a 6 night stay at this studio unit at 5:00 on a Saturday after a long day of travel only to find that the unit HAD NOT BEEN CLEANED from the previous renters. Upon arrival, I called the owner to let him know that the unit hadn't been cleaned. Apparently, he'd accidentally canceled the cleaning. He was very apologetic and offered us a 25% rebate for the inconvenience. At the time, I thought that was ok. Then I started cleaning. After 4 loads of laundry (bedsheets, towels etc), cleaning the toilet, bathroom and dishes, vacuuming, mopping and throwing out the peoples old food, I was disgusted!!!! The experience ruined two days of our trip and my skin crawled every time I entered the unit. We had no idea who stayed here before us. We were cleaning a strangers bedsheets and toilet etc. I was mortified! I consider VRBO studio rentals at the Marriott or the Westin to be 5 star rentals. The Whaler is a 4 star property with a fantastic location and a nice but small pool. But for the granite countertops, this unit is dated and should be rated 3 1/2 stars. Small kitchen is well stocked. Furniture is nice except the pull out couch is hopeless and there are no bedsheets for it. The beach umbrella is broken but two chairs are provided along with other fun beach stuff. I gave this property a low rating because our experience really took away from our enjoyment of the week. Had the place been professionally cleaned, I'd rate it between 3.5 and 4 stars.
In seven years of renting our condo, this is the second time a guest has arrived to find the condo has not been cleaned (the first time, our cleaning service messed up, this one was my fault). I certainly was very sorry and apologetic (also mortified). I gave them a $400 rebate, told them there were clean sheets in the closet and sent them a gift certificate for dinner at the Hula Grill next door. If the guest was not been happy with this, I also offered to send the cleaning service the next day along with a smaller discount. She said she was satisfied with this arrangement. Well, I guess she changed her mind.
She also called me the day before their departure and asked for a late check-out. As a new guest was checking in that day, I had to tell her it was unavailable. I'm pretty sure this added to her displeasure. Regarding her comment about the condition of the condo, the pictures are representative of what you get. And, of course, please read the previous reviews.
