Quaint, rustic and historic--we enjoyed our stay!
If you're seeking 5-star elegance, this is NOT your place! However, the rustic charm of the setting and the farmhouse is exactly as one would expect it to be, with sprinkles of modern comfort where needed most. The beds are very comfortable, cotton sheets, nicely appointed bed spreads and pillow shams. Bathrooms are updated and, as would be expected in an older building, the hot water takes some time to reach the 2nd floor, and the water pressure isn't great, but the bathrooms are efficient and very clean. If you want a spa, take a trip to Canyon Ranch for the day!
The living room furniture could be upgraded a bit, I wished for a big, over-stuffed sofa and chair. However, my friend and I were quite content to plop ourselves on what was there and spend hours chatting over morning coffee. We enjoyed the lush wooded view from each window, and although the farmhouse is located on busy Route 20, it's set back enough so that we didn't hear any traffic at all.
A very nice touch was breakfast food in the fridge, ground coffee in the cabinet, and a few necessary items such as olive oil, tea, mayonnaise, mustard were available. Fresh eggs and native raspberries stocked daily in the roadside cooler!
Our hosts were very attentive, checked in a few times but weren't at all intrusive. You can tell they're proud of their property and they truly want their guests to be comfortable. Easy and relatively quick drive to Tanglewood and surrounding towns. We dined at Chester Common Table, great 3-course offering for $25, locally-sourced, home cooking. On the special Tanglewood night we dined at Allium in Great Barrington, fabulous food and service in-tune with concert schedule.
I was sad to leave as we pulled out of the driveway Sunday morning, a sure sign of a good time and a nice balance of quiet relaxation and entertaining excursions.
We really enjoyed our stay at Clark's corner! The house was so well-loved and we really felt the special care that has been taken. Scott was a great host and it was a wonderful get-a-way in the Berkshires!
Excellent weekend rental
Convenient to Becket and Chester. The right place for "getting away from it all". Remember to check out Chester Common Table on Main Street in Chester for locally sourced fare.
Quaint, lovely early period home
My two girlfriends and I had a "girls weekend out" in the Berkshires and we stayed at this house. It is quaint, comfy and nicely done preserving a lot of the house's original make. Donna and Scott were very accommodating, even providing some basic breakfast items. The gardens are beautiful - lots of flowers and trees, a small vegetable garden and a little swing and outdoor chairs to relax after a day of sightseeing. The only drawback is that it is located on a busy road (the house is called Clark's Corner) and you can hear traffic even in the back bedrooms. So, if you're a light sleeper, this may not be for you. Otherwise, it is a good place to kick off your shoes and just relax.
Exploring the Edge of the Berkshires
My family decided to spend some quality time together and thought that the Berkshires was far enough from our lives in the New York metropolitan area and close enough to drive to and feel like we were really getting away. We were greeted with low humidity and relatively cool temperatures after nice weather after the initial downpour on the drive up.
The house was the right size for our needs, having four adults and an infant, and we were able to prepare our meals easily. Donna and Scott left the basics in the kitchen and refrigerator to get us started when we arrived.
We explored the local area sights, such as MOCA, hiking in the area, walking around Stockbridge and West Barrington, and visiting with family and friends. We were able to slow down our pace from the daily routine at home.
The traffic in front of the house on Route 20 was robust at different points during the day. At times I could hear the river from across the road, and at times the truck tooling down the windy highway.
The house clearly had the feel of a historic home built over one hundred years ago. The antique furnishings added to ambiance. The kitchen had all of the amenities, and we also enjoyed grilling in the backyard. There were two full bathrooms, and the water in the house was sufficiently hot for all four adults to bathe one after another. However, the water pressure, especially for the hot water, seemed low.
It was an opportunity for us to hang out together and reconnect. Please be aware that there is no WIFI nor television reception, yet we were able to watch DVDs on the set in the living room.
Niché dans une vallée à l'extérieur de Chester Village. Cette vieille maison se trouve toute seule sur une grande parcelle de terrain privé.
