A really lovely time
We're a French family of five and we stayed for a week at Anne-Marie's villa. We had a lovely time there. The view is breathtaking and the villa was everything we hoped it would be. It was clean, tidy, quiet, comfortable and well-equipped. Our children (aged 11, 9 and 6) loved the pool. They spent hours in it, especially as the sea was quite rough that week due to the wind. I had packed a few inflatable toys but there were some already at the villa. They really had great fun.
Anne-Marie was really helpful and provided us with lots of information about the villa and its area.
We arrived late at night so we rang Paul and arranged a meeting point off the national road. He showed us the way to the villa and gave us a tour. We had arranged a start-up pack of food, which he had bought for us and that was much appreciated.
We once had a problem with the water- no tap water running at all- but Paul fixed it within the hour.
There were a few mosquitoes but not many. I had packed some repellent but we didn't use any.
We loved the Dolphin taverna down by the beach. The food is good and Nikos, the cook and the owner, is very friendly.
We loved the near-by village Fodele. We tried 3 tavernas and Domenico's was the one we liked best. We recommend the food (gyros...). His goat's milk ice cream is really good.
To put it in a nutshell, we really had a great time at Anne-Marie's villa.
Ideally located villa at Fodele
We found that information prior to departure was timely and useful. Finding the villa in daylight was easy though arriving during night time could be tricky as the last couple of Kms are over rural lanes. Weather was warm and sunny apart from last few days. Easy access to Heraklion and Rethymno and to the mountainous and scenic interior. There are several nearby beaches and a range of tavernas within a short drive. We were made most welcome in the nearby village of Fodele. Interesting walks in and around the village and the orange juice at Domenico's is fantastic. The owner, George, is quite a character! Car hire is essential. A most enjoyable stay in a lovely part of Crete.
Thank you for your nice review and I'm glad that you had a lovely time. Hopefully we will see you again soon, Anne-Marie
The house was full of aints. AC doesn't work at sitting room . If you keep any food in the kitchen after half an hour you won't be able to eat as the food will cover with aint. We count sleep at all . Worse part when we complain they don't even bother to reply or do something about it . The villa is middle of no where. The nearest shop is 11 kilometres away. Only good thing is neighbour was helpful .
I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your weekend stay at my villa. I am very concerned by some of your comments, especially that I did not respond to your complaint. I can honestly say that I have not received a complaint or any contact from you since your arrival at the villa.
Yes, the villa is a 20 minute drive from the main city of Heraklion and is also 2km from the village of Fodele. That information is clearly shown on the Homeaway listing. The listing also states that a car is recommended/essential.
Most people book my villa because it is not in the middle of a busy, loud, tourist resort and because they prefer to experience the real Crete.
There are several very well stocked small food shops in the village, as well as a shop in the hotel by the beach that sells essential items. There are also 3 very good tavernas on the beach (a 10 minute walk away) and many more in the village. I understand from my neighbour that you prefer to eat curry rather than local Greek food. I must admit that curry is not so easy to find on the Greek island of Crete, however, there is an Indian restaurant in Heraklion and the larger supermarkets do also sell frozen curry.
Ants are a problem throughout Greece, and most hot countries, and you should always keep food stored away from them. The air conditioning does work in the sitting room, as well as in all 3 bedrooms.
From the booking correspondence it appears that somebody called Rasheed made the booking. He doesn't seem to be a member of your group that stayed at the villa and I don't know how he is connected to you. Perhaps he is an agent you used? Perhaps you sent your complaint to him rather than me?
I am genuinely sorry that you did not enjoy your stay but I do wonder if Rasheed failed to give you detailed information about the villa before you booked, which would certainly explain your disappointment.
Please contact me if you are interested in renting for a longer time or during the winter. I will do my best to give you a good rate.
