Great place
We had a great time and would love to book it again for next year
Very Nice
Very nice property. Nice and secluded yet close town.
Perfect getaway cabin!
It was our first time to the Black Hills but after driving around all weekend and seeing lots of sights I must say this is an ideal location! Minutes to Custer state park, Mt Rushmore, Wind Cave NP, Jewel Cave. The town of Custer is a quaint town with lots to walk around and see/do. Skogen Kitchen is amazing for dinner. Jump in the car, make a couple quick turns, and you are right in town! The cabin and property are remarkable. Plenty of exploring for our kids and multiple spots to relax inside and out for the adults. The cabin was well appointed, clean, roomy, and amazing views. Helpful owner who was quick to respond with any last minute questions leading up to our stay and after our arrival. Don’t look further for great accommodations for your Black Hills vacation!
Peaceful surroundings
We saw deer everyday morning and evening! Enjoyed being with friends and the beds were comfortable for us all! Great having meals morning and evening and relaxing after a spectacular day sight seeing! Would stay again the owner was amazing!!!
Peaceful Haven in the Black Hills
Whitetail Springs Ranch offers a superb location for exploring the southern hills of the beautiful Black Hills. The ranch is in a quiet, rural setting with acres of heavily forested, rocky land surrounded by US Forest lands. Let the music of birdsong, buzzing field insects & yelping coyotes accompany your morning coffee or soothe your spirit after a long day.
Best of all, the ranch is very close to two jewel-in-the-crown parks, amazing Custer State Park and scenic Wind Cave National Park. In fact, the ranch is near to just about everything one may wish to experience in the Black Hills.
The little friendly town of Custer is a short distance from the ranch. There are some excellent restaurants in town (Skogen, Sage Creek Grille and Maria’s food truck were three favorite repeat eateries). Also, there are several very nice shops, an artisans' co-op gallery and a full service grocer in town.
Excellent trails are nearby. Whether you choose the Mickelson Trail, the Centennial Trail or the loads of trails in Custer SP and Wind Cave NP one can hike for many miles! Plus there are abundant Forest Svc roads (basically two lane dirt tracks through beautiful granite-studded forested back country) within walking distance of the ranch house where one can walk to one’s content. I particularly enjoyed having the Forest Service back roads nearby for days when time was short and I simply wanted to walk miles without getting in the car to drive to a trailhead. Even the quiet scenic road on which Whitetail Springs Ranch is situated is gorgeous and not very trafficked, perfect for walking.
Views are fantastic from the ranch house porch. Stretching over 180 degrees from east to west, one has an uninterrupted view of the sky with distant granite peaks providing visual impact. Sunrises, sunsets and storm watching can be incredible with panoramic views. Dark skies at night offer excellent stargazing.
Whitetail Springs Ranch is very roomy. In addition to the three bedrooms there is comfortable seating in the common rooms. If you read in bed or prefer to read or work on a project (knitting, playing cards or whatever) I suggest bringing a portable book reading light (for instance, I never travel without a headlamp) as lighting tends to be on the dim side throughout the house. WiFi is fast. A television offers a full range of channels to view.
Our second stay within a year’s time, many thanks to host Jody for your hospitality! Highly recommended!
Wonderful House
Just outside of city and quiet but minutes away from town and local sites. Loved the patio. Patio was great for breakfast and dinner.
