We recently had a week of vacation at this beautiful cabin in Alarka, NC. It was so beautiful and quiet that we struggled to pack up and leave, we even had to drag our dog into the car on Sunday morning! This truly is a place to unplug and unwind. Local walks and hikes on forestry trails were superb and in easy reach with the Smoky Mountains, Blue Ridge and Appalachian trails not too far away either. The wildlife was awesome and it was so beautiful to observe spring unfurl (end of April 2019). Dean and Diane were incredibly responsive and helpful to our questions prior and during our visit with local caretakers Patti and Noel being super helpful. This cabin is “home from home”, fully equipped and truly a wonderful family space. A stunning porch/deck which is sheltered from which you can watch the sunrise and set whilst taking a glimpse of the hummingbirds feeding. The lawn out front was perfect for our dog to run around and hours of fun playing catch. Thank you Dean and Diane for such a wonderful stay.
Thanks for staying! Glad you enjoyed yourselves.
Life is better on the porch.
The relaxing porch provides a beautiful view as the sun sets in the valley. We also enjoyed the large dining table for food and games and the split bedroom floor plan. The new grill was an added plus. Thank you for a serene weekend in the mountains.
Very relaxing and neighbors were very friendly. Would recommend better wifi
We have cable internet that is supposed to be up to 100 mbps. The provider has been having intermittent issues with providing service, though. If there were a better provider in the area, I would go with them. Thanks for staying!
We had a great time on our visit. The house exceeded our expectations. You can't beat the view from the front porch! Can't wait to come back.
Sanitation grade F!!!
Mildew on the food in the pantry with the odor to go with it was our first turn-off. A box of salt and a package of grits were black with mildew and we tossed them and decided not to put our food in the pantry. The caretaker called soon after we arrived to see if we needed anything and I told her about the mildew - she offered to come down and wipe the pantry out with bleach - REALLY??? That mildew did not get there overnight - did she not check the house before our arrival to make sure things were in order? There was dirt on the bedroom floors and in the closets - our friend had to sweep her room before she could unpack her clothes - and it looked like the blinds had not ever been dusted or cleaned- our friend found a bra behind the curtain on the table in her room - there was a wad of black curly hair on the dresser in our bedroom - and the floor molding had mildew and dirt covering it - I wiped it with a Clorox wipe and it was black with mildew, dirt and hair. A towel that I used smelled like the inside of a gym bag!
The house needs a thorough cleaning from top to bottom before it is rented again!
We did enjoy the beautiful mountain view from the dining room table and covered porch. The house was easy to find - GPS took us right to it.
We have stayed in quite a few houses listed with VRBO and they have been wonderful but this one left much to be desired and was more than disappointing. We would NOT recommend this one!
disappointed in the house
We didn't realize the house was the distance to Bryson City. In the bedroom looking toward the road has issues with the electricity on each side of the bed. My husband has to sleep with a Cpad, when it was plugged in you couldn't use the lamp or charge the phone. Also the platform where the heater is, is a disaster waiting to happen. The couple that was with us, the wife as blind. We wouldn't let her move in the kitchen or den. Every dangerous.
I’m so sorry that you had a bad experience. My preferred method of communicating a problem is a phone call when the problem is noticed. You, however, chose not to notify me or my caretakers, and instead, post a poor review without giving me the chance to remedy. This is especially disheartening, as my caretakers, who live next door, came up and introduced themselves to you, and reminded you that their number, as well as mine, is posted in the house. I have just placed a call to an electrician to look into the outlets. As to the platform for the heater, it was installed by the gas company who installed and still services the heater. It is all up to code. I am sorry that it posed a hazard to a sight challenged guest. I’ve had 5 star reviews from other guests who discovered issues, but gave the 5 star because of my responsiveness. I only ask, at this point, that if you stay at a vacation home in the future, that you keep this in mind. It is very unfair to the owners, who depend on reviews to drive business.
