Perfect mountain getaway
The place is cozy clean and has a nice property just far enough from town but close enough if you need to go there
Beautiful, secluded property
This is a very nice place to get away from it all. One reviewer mentioned that it would not pass the white glove test and that is true, but my overall impression is that it is a great place to stay. We had one perfect Sunny day where we sat on the spacious deck and enjoyed the hot tub in total seclusion. The setting is simply lovely. I also want to mention the friendly duck who seemed to love company. My son loved it. While we were only 4, there is room for more. It would be a great spot for a large family reunion. Doug helped in every way without being intrusive. We found this to be a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the simple beauty of the surroundings.
The rental property was what we needed
ENJOYABLE, BUT DON'T GIVE IT THE WHITE GLOVE TREATMENT
I’ve been writing reviews for our rental vacation homes for ten years, but I’ve never had the dilemma I have now. As the expression goes, “Which would you like first, the good news or the bad news?”
I’ll give the positives first. The owner was friendly and reliable in answering all phone and text messages in a timely manner. The vista that greets you at the end of the long road to the house is stunning. The expanse of green lawn, the two ponds, the picturesque gazebo, the rope hammock strung between two trees – it was like a picture postcard. The added treat of a friendly white duck made for some good laughs as he followed us around the yard. The house is furnished with a hodgepodge of predominantly old furniture, but is spacious and bright. The kitchen is very well stocked. The deck is a great place to relax and look at the view and there is plenty of outdoor seating. Two of us used the hot tub and felt it was a nice way to end the day.
All the negatives involve issues of cleanliness. We were 4 adults -- 3 men and a woman. I am the woman. The negatives didn't really bother the men. It may boil down to a difference between the sexes, but I really don’t want to believe that’s the case. After reading my review, no matter your sex, you’ll have to decide whether or not you would be comfortable here.
A crumpled bed sheet lay in a heap on the grass at the foot of the house steps. There were big, dead ladybugs, dirt and grime on many windowsills. There were dead and dying plants in the kitchen and living room. There was toothpaste splatter on the wall in the upstairs bath. The drawers and storage spaces in both bathrooms had not been cleaned in a long time and held discarded things from previous guests, such as an old toothbrush, a strip of twist ties, torn papers, a push-pin, a broken part of a hair dryer, and lots more. The toilet seat was dirty. The shelves in our bedroom had a film of dust on them. Perhaps the oddest thing was the catch-all lamp base on the bedroom night table. It held a collection of beer can pull-tabs, a not-so-pleasant parting gift from someone who stayed in that room before us, obviously drinking in bed.
The shower was very difficult to get in and out of. The owner provides a step stool, but you should be careful of your footing. Also, given the low level of cleaning that had been done throughout the house, you may want to think twice before settling down your naked self on the bench in the steam bath. I’m just sayin’.
Private and comfortable
Private and comfortable. Everything you need is there. Great deck
Perfect retreat for our small family
We had a wonderful stay at David’s place! It was quiet and peaceful, a perfect escape from the busy, noisy city
David was very quick to respond and easily accessible for all my questions and any help I needed, big thumbs up
My teenagers were happy to use the jacuzzi and the fire pit was perfect for the chilly evenings and making s’mores! We made friends with the duck and hung out on the deck to soak up sun all day and catch up on reading. The kitchen was nicely stocked with all the cooking utensils and pots and pans we needed, it was also very convenient to have a dishwasher
The steam shower was nice as well, it was a little tricky to figure out at first but once I got it I was able to do it each day I stayed with no problem at all
There were some towels provided even though we brought our own but it made it more convenient for the kids to use the jacuzzi again and again
Another huge plus- the cell phones always had great service, and the WiFi was good! We were able to watch movies on Netflix with our google chrome cast with no problem at all! And my kids were able to play video games and connect on the internet with no complaints whatsoever, it was a big win for everyone
The nearest grocery store was a Price Chopper about 10 mins away- super convenient, and they have decently priced bundles of firewood, I sent my husband out every day for some :)
The beds were comfortable and clean, we didn’t have to bring linens, another big plus
There’s so much room for everyone to spread out and do their own thing if they chose, and decent amounts of seating throughout the property if we wanted to gather together- it was lovely!
We had such a pleasant stay and can’t wait to come back :)
