Charming, secluded and comfortable
This was our second stay at this charming cabin. While we enjoy the quiet, seclusion, rustic interior and swimming while at the cabin, there's also miles of trails to hike in nearby Michigan State Parks, plus great brew pubs and farmer's markets (Cheboygan, Charlevoix) within driving distance. Sunsets are consistently remarkable. Mike is always friendly and responsive throughout the reservation and confirmation process. Highly recommend for a laid back, outdoor focused get away.
Rustic Cabin in Cheboygan
The cabin had everything we needed and the view of Lake Huron and privacy was wonderful. The weather was a little more Fall than Summer but we had a lovely time.
The cabin is situated on a very nice stretch of the Lake. Boise Blanc island is in the view across the water along with its lighthouse/buoy which goes off every 30 seconds or so. I did not mind it at all, 1 of our friends did, however.
The upper loft area was not usable for us which was unfortunate as there were 3 of us, so 2 bunked together in the "dormitory" room. We did not find that area appealing as it was cobwebby (ceiling and bedframes) and linens were a bit tattered. More adventurous spirits may find it charming - we are a group of 60-year-olds.The red squirrel that was visiting also liked that area so we left it to her ;).
We brought our own linens but did not need them in the rest of the cabin.
Enjoyed the fireplace in the mornings, more for ambience then anything else. It was warm during our stay with only 1 day of rain. Rain brought the pestering flies so we opted to run errands and shop. Rest of the time we had no issue with bugs.
The rock collecting was fabulous, the water clear and cold which was perfect. There is a rather sharp dropoff in the water and wear your water shoes!
We saw only a few people, mostly down the beach from us.
Never had to contact the property owner as the information and rules were laid our plain enough.
This would be a great place for a tight family to stay-the beach and water cannot get much better.
Thanks for your feedback and honest review. I strive to achieve five stars, and I hope you'll give us another chance.
The red squirrels have a lot of character and are great fun to watch -- outdoors. He'll be caught (alive) and evicted. There shouldn't have been cobwebs upstairs, and I'll make sure that doesn't happen again. I will also replace the upstairs linens.
Of course, I agree with all your positive observations. I'm glad on balance you enjoyed your stay.
Definitely coming back!!!
Michael was a great host! We had the best time. Relaxing, kayaking, going for walks, enjoying the gorgeous sunsets behind the bridge. We even saw a golden eagle grab a fish from the lake!!! The worst part was having to leave! A definite must to unplug and reconnect! Thanks for sharing your amazing cabin with us!
The cottage was as stated in the description and we had everything we needed!
Wonderful week in an magical setting!
Charmingly rustic as described. Very comfortable with all the necessary amenities.
It was the perfect get away. Exactly what 2 city people were looking for: peace and quiet. Many options for day trips if you can tear yourself away from the deck and the fabulous views. We could see Mackinac Island and the bridge and freighters passing in the distance. A family of wild turkeys made a few trips past the cabin during our stay. We saw a number of beautiful sunsets. We bought some delicious handmade sausage and smoked salmon in Rogers City. Even the overcast days were enjoyable.
Mike was very responsive to all of our questions before and during our stay. We loved the property and enjoyed exploring the area.
