Serene, great hospitality
It was just right - in a natural setting, comfortable, easy to find. Liz (owner) went the extra mile to make sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend, and will be coming back!
Beautiful place, great setting, but problems with the caretaker
We stayed at the Crystalwood Lodge about 6 months ago for our small wedding. We had up to 13 guests staying overnight, and about 22 guests on site for the day of the wedding. The lodge was lovely and fit our needs well. We utilized the kitchen for every meal. The ceremony was beautiful held down in the circle of aspen trees. Unfortunately, the whole experience has been marred after the fact dealing with Liz, the lodge caretaker, in trying to get reimbursement on our security deposit. We'd also paid for a total of 30 guests each night (not knowing how many would attend when we booked the lodge), and we'd worked it out with Liz many months ahead of time that if less people were to attend, we would get reimbursed some of our upfront costs (since she charges a fixed amount per person per day over a certain number of guests). We confirmed prior to checkout that we would indeed be reimbursed for having less people at the lodge than originally planned; Liz simply asked that we email her our final numbers. Correspondence with Liz continued over about a month following our checkout, via email and VRBO messaging, where she gave many personal excuses as to why our money hadn't been returned yet. Eventually she simply ceased all contact with us. She wouldn't return our phone calls/emails/VRBO messages. She never gave us any indication (during checkout or in the month after when she was still communicating with us) that there was something wrong or a problem for which we would not be getting our security deposit returned to us. At the very least, we should have received our security deposit back, even if she decided not to reimburse us for having less people on-site. Or if there had been a problem, Liz should have communicated that to us. From the stories she told us of previous guest "issues," I have a feeling this isn't the first time she's done this. As much as we enjoyed the property, we will not be returning and we would not recommend staying here unless you plan for your security deposit (or any other possible upfront money) getting added on to your total cost. Or make sure you get whatever insurance VRBO doesn't provide themselves (Home Away?). We were fairly new to using VRBO and did not realize how important having the insurance would prove to be.
Gorgeous old homestead, great views, great fishing
Spectacular in every way. Only downside was the mosquitos and they were surprisingly (for the location near the lake/marsh) light. Caught scores of sizable perch and a 20 inch trout. Tons of larger trout swimming around, but didn't have time to target them effectively. Liz is a wonderful host with an energy that you can't forget. She was always around when you needed her, and away when you didn't.
Vast Serene Stunning Historical Homestead
Crystalwood Lodge is the perfect dog friendly getaway within distance of amazing outdoor resources and recreation opportunities from Crater Lake, Upper Klamath Marsh, Sky Lakes Wilderness trails, world class trout fishing, Ziplining, local rural restaurants within 20 minutes, and a trip into Klamath Falls for shopping is only 45 minutes away. It is also a cozy enough Lodge to just hang out and read at, just the history of the place gives it plenty of ambiance, as it is over 120 year old homestead. The commercial kitchen was amazing well stocked, with walking cooler storage easily big enough for all 14 in our martial art group camp. Hard core students still had plenty of land to tent camp on. There was ample parking and the entire place is set up to accommodate a decent sized group. Beds were comfortable and bedrooms were very quiet-didn't hear other people, the private bathroom rooms were clean and well maintained as was the cleanliness of the entire place. Liz Parrish, the owner, was an amazing and generous host, she took time and shared her personal history and expertise as a iditarod musher and the opportunity for us to meet her sled dogs. We had several dog lovers in our group and the chance to interact with these amazing animals was awesome. She had goats visiting in order to eat down the weeds near the Lodge and they were extremely friendly comical and charming and added to the immense character and humor of our trip. The homestead had a huge variety of trails, fields, marsh, canal/canoeing venues which we took advantage of for different training opportunities for our martial art group. It also gave our students space to go on a walkabout and find solace and stillness and to fish! We look forward to booking another trip next year and highly recommend Crystalwood Lodge
Thanks so much for allowing me the honor of hosting your martial arts group. I quite frankly wasn't sure what to expect, and it was pure joy for me to see your students fully utilize the property, habitats, and water activities as well as the lodge facility. My housekeepers also wanted me to pass along their thanks for taking such great care of the place. You folks were "easy keepers" and I look forward to hosting you again!
Unique and Refreshing Atmosphere
The unexpected is always an unique and refreshing experience ;) It's not easy to find lodging for 22 with varying ages from 5 to 77 yet Crystalwood Lodge fulfilled this tall order. Crystalwood Lodge offered 100's of acres to explore, fishing, boating, snakin', and the most unlikely of all "sled dogs!" Our family had a wonderful time and really enjoyed the spacious family room to chat, play games and hang out. We also loved having a big kitchen, walk-in refrigerator and commercial coffee pot! Meal times were a breeze and there was enough room for all to eat together. It was easy to be flexible with a bathroom "under repair" as there were many other options in the house. Liz was very accommodating and a joy to talk with and get to know. Thank you Crystalwood Lodge for an amazing time with our family!!
Great place for a huge family.
We had a group of 20 plus family members for Thanksgiving and not once did we feel crowded. With the size of the kitchen many of us could be working at the same time. It was great also a plus that there was canoe's for us to use. The negatives thing about this property is it needed some maintance 2 showers were not working, it was a little hard to keep downstairs warm dur to the fact the only heat source was wood. The hardest part for our family was the fact the owner just walks in at anytime and did everyday we were there unannounced.
All in all a great place to stay.
