Secluded and Peaceful
Great property, with beautiful scenery, close proximity to Mt. Whitney, if you are looking for a relaxing weekend this is the spot.
Loved the kitsch! Cozy woodstove and comfortable bed
Mt. Whitney home away from home!
Perfect location. Warm and cozy house with everything we needed! Host was gracious and full of good tips for the town. Would love to stay here again. Quiet and peaceful location.
Alabama Hills Lone Pine Retreat
We had a great time in Lone Pine. The house has an awesome location--spectacular views. Close access to Whitney Portal and Horse shoe Meadows trails. Pretty front and back yards. Loved the wildlife--there's a resident rabbit in the yard. We saw a bobcat cross the road right in front of the house. Local birds visited daily. Mostly quiet neighborhood. A puzzling siren sounded at odd hours of the night (one night at ~2am). Made all the dogs and coyotes in the area bark and howl. Thought it might be for the fire department, but no info at house explaining this. House interior is nice and cozy. Could use some updates in the kitchen--very old stove/oven...but it works fine. Old spa bathtub could be replaced--looked worn and not too inviting. Couldn't get the record player to work. Internet radio was available, but couldn't figure out how to change channels--couldn't find a channel guide. But that was no big deal. What was an issue were the ants. Kept our food in the frig or inside containers--yet they somehow got into the container holding our favorite bakery's cookies. Had to throw them out. Used the compost pail in the kitchen for vegetable scraps, per instructions, but the ants got into that too. Would rather not have had to spend time cleaning up after them. We applaud the owners' decision to not use poison--we don't at our house either. But they do need to figure out how to exclude the ants from the kitchen--caulking around the windows and water pipes would be a good first start. There were 2 sightings of a large beetle/roach on the floor in the kitchen and in the bathroom. Tried to capture one, but it scuddled away and hid. We live in the woods and are used to insects, spiders, etc. getting into our house. Not squeamish about it. But if you're renting your place for income, you need to make sure your guests don't have to deal with such things. So, all in all, we had a great time and enjoyed the house very much. To do list for owners: get rid of ants and possible cockroaches. Add additional instructions in the House Guide binder regarding using the stereo system/channel guide, and information about what the siren means.
