Glorious long weekend in Eastbrook
My 3 generation family loved our 4-night get away. It was our first time renting this property: we had 4 adults: 20, 56, 64 & 84yo. The house was set up as if owners were expecting really good friends - they thought of pretty much everything. I brought a bag with essentials (paper towel, sponges, soap, spices, cooking oil, tinfoil, etc.) But I didn’t unpack a thing except vanilla for pancakes. In the kitchen, we found every pan/pot/utensil needed - even a Keurig and coffee pods + regular brew pot.
The house had two queen beds as advertised which were comfortable and the pull out couch my 20 yo son slept on was acceptable. The sleeping loft is a large platform with no bedding - would work for kids in sleeping bags (there were 3 sleeping bags in the closet)- we didn’t use it other than as a place to keep my son’s belongings out of the way. The WiFi is excellent -my son streamed live sports while I streamed shows from my home DVR and my husband watched Netflix. There is a TV monitor if you bring something to plug into it - but no cable or antenna. Cell service and WiFi did dip on occasion - but I received a call while out in the kayak that I could hear fine. Having said that, we loved spending unplugged time: cribbage (board and cards were in the cabinet) and reading(brought our own books), napping in the hammock, listening to the loon calls. The screened porch was a great extra space. Water views from all the windows. We used the fire pit (with the firewood provided) and made s’mores. The night star gazing was breathtaking: there are no bothersome lights nearby - the Milky Way was visible in detail.
We took the kayaks out every day. There were even water shoes in a variety of sizes to fit everyone in the family and of course multiple floatation vests too. The water was perfect temperature on Labor Day weekend - so we did some swimming. Motors are allowed on the lake, but I was pleased that they weren’t even a little bit bothersome -Molasses Pond is pretty large. I expected it to be crowded the Saturday before Labor Day - we paddled out around noon and it was so serene - one person fishing from a canoe and a jet ski that was there and gone quickly - but otherwise we were the only ones out there.
Off the beaten track location is a mixed blessing - it’s 25-40 minutes to groceries and restaurants in Franklin or Ellsworth. We’ve been to Acadia many times, so chose not to go this trip.
We all agree on the 5 star rating!
So much more than expected!
The property and cottage is beautiful. The dock and pond are as well. My grandsons spent every moment they could fishing, and exploring the pond and pond life. The main road was in good condition for their mother to jog each day..and the screened in porch was a favorite place for my parents to sit and watch their great-grandsons being "kids". It was great to have an updated kitchen, as we prepared a lot of our own meals. I couldn't have been happier with this rental.
A fantastic, peaceful property with everything we needed for our Maine vacation. We enjoyed kayaking on Molasses Pond, and it was also a great launch point for exploring Acadia. Owners were great to deal with and very responsive!
The perfect retreat! Thank you.
Our family very much enjoyed our stay. I paddle boarded across the pond to the island and saw an American bald eagle fishing early morning. Hummingbirds visited us out on the porch and there is a mild breeze blowing off the pond most of the day. Because the pond is relatively shallow the water is warm for a lake in Maine. My daughter and I snorkeled and found a pair of catfish with a big swarm of young just out front of the dock. My son and I fished during the day using the kayaks which were incredibly comfortable. We had a campfire at night and watch the stars from the end of the dock which were brilliant. Thank you Jeremy for a great family trip.
All our best
