Comfort and solitude
The drive is worth it. The pictures don’t really express the feel of the house. I enjoy staying in cabins that have a feel of age and timelessness, and this home does and is the biggest reason for the 5 star rating. It is hard to say what my favorite space in the house was. The kitchen is eclectic but was a joy to cook in, well stocked and the perfect cabin feel of mixed matched plates, cups and essential utensils. Our trip was classic September weather with 85 degrees and swimming our first day and a high elevation hike in the snow 2 days later. The mature shade trees in the yard kept the house cool and the kitchen wood stove kept a all day coziness when the weather changed. This trip was myself and my adult son. I slept awesome in the downstairs bedroom covered in quilts with the doors open and the calming sound of the river. My son slept in the upstairs bedroom with large windows that showcased the vast night sky unpolluted by the normal urban light of the Bay Area. There are five separate decks surrounding the house to sit on and each has a unique view and feel. The front room couches were comfortable and have a amazing view of the surrounding mountains. Sawyer Bar Road is directly in front of the house but with the area being so remote passing cars were a rarity and when they did it felt like a neighbor as everyone waved in a shared kind way. The internet signal was strong and allowed easy phone connection to family at home. All of Paul’s swim hole recommendations and directions were descriptive and accurate. I can’t wait to return in the hot summer months. The best holes require a 15 minute drive but there are walkable ones that provide a refreshing dip. We walked on the road of the dozen other homes and everyone we saw made us feel welcome. Having the National Forest Service station nearby lends a since of safety to the remoteness. A neighbor With a medical emergency had been airlifted out days before our arrival. The home was eclectic and funky with a warm and welcoming feeling. I am always searching for a place that will allow solitude and a recharge, this one is now on my short list.
We are so glad to hear you and your son enjoyed your stay, Steve! Happy guests is what we strive for and we are grateful to hear that our special place left you satisfied!
We (family of 4) had a wonderful week of swimming, hiking, fishing, rafting, and exploring!! The home is rustic and a great base camp to explore the amazing Klamath National Forest. All of us wished we could of stayed another week.
Thank you Paul and family for sharing your home and knowledge of the surrounding area!!!
