Peaceful, relaxing, comfortable, homey, historic
My husband and I were longing for a getaway soot from the city where we could totally relax, read, cook for ourselves, eat outside under the stars, and take long country walks. Our dream came true at Shepherd's Meadow. We wished we could have stayed much longer!
Nice Home, Old, and No A/C
Being from Florida, we forgot that (and perhaps especially in a 1700's home) centralized air condition is not standard in all homes. The house overall is comfortable and the beds sleep well, and was clean aside from a few cobwebs here and there. Our first night was sweltering (even with the windows open, but then the temperatures cooled and our second night was much more comfortable. The house has a musty smell, but is very clean. The water is well water (the water smells like eggs) and there are a lot of trucks going by to get to the highway late at night (which was noisy when the windows were open, but not as noticeable when they were closed). The property owner was very nice and easy to deal with, so it made it difficult to point out the properties flaws. I only did so in order to let others know what to expect.
Beautifully preserved, 18th Century Colonial farm house
I’ve enjoyed my stay in this beautifully preserved 18th Century farm house, cozy, yet spacious enough for at least six people, offering privacy by its remote location, yet close enough to Great Barrington for shopping, restaurants and concerts. I will come back whenever my travels take me to the area! The owner, Lisa, was very attentive and communicated promptly whenever contacted, and she made sure to provide all that was needed for a successful rental! Thank you, will come again!
Excellent Vacation Experience
I cannot say enough good things about our stay at this home. The owner was so nice and did everything possible to meet our travel needs, including an available supply of toiletries in case we forgot something. It is so rare to see an authentic colonial home, and this home had so much authentic charm. The home was close to Great Barrington, yet far enough away to relax and enjoy the rural setting. Deer were seen in the evening, a real treat. We could hear the relaxing sound of Green River flowing over rocks. I wish I had brought my fishing gear. My son and I played a little bit of baseball. We were close to Tanglelwood and enjoyed a wonderful picnic. The house had everything we could want in terms of dishes and cooking utensils and a deck to enjoy our B B Q. This was a wonderful experience. We all want to return many more times when we are in the area.
