Relaxing and comfortable stay
The house was clean and comfortable and just a few minutes to the town of Rhinebeck. The owner responded quickly to every correspondence and was a pleasure to rent from. We all enjoyed a relaxing few days. Thank you!
Clean quite and private home
We just wrapped up our stay at this home and it was perfect for our needs. The house was clean and tucked away providing privacy. The owners were attentive to our emails and we will definitely be staying here again if the property is available the next time we are in the area.
Wonderful experience - house was great & owners were "greater"!
This house is huge & well appointed. Its immaculately clean. The owners could not be more responsive to questions - both before and during our stay. Would not hesitate to recommend this property.
Rhinebeck rental disappointment
This house has potential to be a fine vacation rental. It is located on a quiet street, a short drive to Rhinebeck and offers beautiful views from the front porch. Every room was spotlessly clean. Communications with the owner were pleasant, and our deposit was returned promptly. That said, the house lacked so many basic amenities which are reasonably expected in a vacation rental that we cannot recommend it.
Because every closet and drawer were filled with the owners’ possessions, there was no place for us to store our clothes. The lack of a luggage rack meant that we had to live out of suitcases, which were on the floor. Two bedrooms and the bathrooms had no shades. Lighting through the house was generally deficient. Neither of the two bedrooms we used nor the living room had sufficient light to read; one of the two lamps in the living room had a burned out bulb and the other an extremely low wattage bulb. There were other burned out bulbs (bathroom and bedroom) , and we did not find any replacements. There were no clocks in the bedrooms or nightlights in the bathrooms. Although Netflix and Amazon were available for streaming, there was no cable TV. Space had been cleared in the refrigerator but not the freezer. There was no electric coffee pot, a total of only 5 plates, no napkins, tissues, or paper towels (other than 6 sheets left on a roll) and only the barest trace of dish soap. The house was filled with the owners’ possessions, including medications left in the refrigerator. Towels and linens were serviceable, although one of the towels had a dark grease-like stain. We had to hunt for facecloths. There were no departure instructions or any tourist information. Most, if not all, of these basic amenities are recommended in any number of websites devoted to the topic of how to prepare a house to be a vacation rental. Most disturbing to us was a dangerous lack of outdoor lighting. This house is located in a rural area, with no street lighting. The walk uphill from the parking pad to the front door required navigating a number of steps in pitch darkness. Fortunately we were able to use our cellphone flashlights. For guests who aren't familiar with these steps, this poses a great safety hazard. Finally there is no disclosure that this house is really not set up as a vacation rental, but instead a home temporarily vacated by homeowners. This might be acceptable to some renters but should have been disclosed up front.
Nancy, I'm so sorry you did not enjoy your stay as much as we would all have liked. It is unfortunate you did not contact me during your stay as I could have addressed these issues immediately. For example, we have a lovely french press in the cabinet next to the sink that I could have helped you find so you could have enjoyed your coffee. There are also plenty of facecloths in the linen closet in the bathroom. As far as the lightning throughout the house, many of the bulbs need to be switched on using wall switches, including the one in the living room. We choose dimmer bulbs on purpose as we like the ambiance they create as opposed to bright lights. There is also plenty of outdoor lighting- there is a large light over the driveway that comes on as it gets dark. It was still working when we got home but if for some reason it was off during your stay we could have easily helped you turn it on had you let us know this was a concern. There are also two other outdoor lights that can be turned on from inside the kitchen which again, we could have assisted you in locating had we known you had trouble finding them.
As far as our personal belongings being in the house: This is very common in VRBO rental properties and has been the case in every rental in which I have every stayed. It has never been an issue with any other guest.
Again, I am truly sorry you did not have the experience that we would hoped for. I wish I had been alerted during your stay as I would have been very prompt in addressing your concerns.
Pleasant home. Great for little kids
Very nice and convenient to town. We had a nice set up and owner was accommodating.
Clean, comfortable, and accomodating.
Perfect home for a group of 4 or 5 people. The homeowners were also very accommodating and prompt in their responses to my questions. Would visit again!
