Il Fornaccio is an ancient farm house of the fiteenth-sixteenth century, once part of the old farm called "dell Olmo" (Elm tree), formerly the property of the Busini, a rich merchant, Florentine family; (more recently owned by the Marcheses Rosselli del Turco), carefully and conservatively restored, and graced by a spacious garden, featuring a majestic, centuries old ilex.
The house is sited at 500 meters above sea level in a private and quiet location, but easily reached either by car or public transport (a bus stop is 700 meters from the house, the train station Caldine is six kilometers away). It is set in the middle of olive groves and cultivated fields. From the windows and garden one enjoys a fantastic verdant panorama looking towards Florence, Fiesole, and the surrounding hills.
Here in a warm and informal atmosphere you will find a large suite (70 square meters) with terracotta floors, exposed beams, decorated tastefully, equipped with all conveniences (color TV, safe, closet, and upon request, equipment for infants: changing table, basinett, sterilizer and bottle warmer.

Means of access BY CAR:
Coming from the North (Milan, Bologna) leave the autostrada A1 at the exit of Barberino di Mugello, then follow signs for S. Piero a Sieve, Borgo S. Lorenzo. After passing the lake of Bilancino and the locality of Cafaggiolo you arrive at a rotary: here following signs for Via Faentina (S.P. 302) pass a short viaduct and a tunnel, and follow straight until the intersection for Via Faentina (S.P. 302). Enter Via Faentina on the right, and follow in the direction of Firenze, passing the villages of Polcanto and Mulinaccio. Several kilometers after Mulinaccio you arrive at the locality of Vetta Le Croci, and here as soon as you descend the hill, turn right on Via Casa al Vento, following signs for Vaglia Bivigliano. Via ... is the first section on the left (about 700 meters from the intersection).
Coming from the South (Rome) leave the autostrada A1 at Firenze Sud exit, and follow signs to Fiesole. In the main piazza of Fiesole (Piazza Mino), follow straight and exit from the town. Then continue the Via del Bosconi, always continuing straight for several kilometers until the intersection of Via Faentina (S.R. 302)in the locality of Le Quattro Strade. Cross Via Faentina, turn into Via Casa al Vento, and followi signs for Vaglia Bivigliano. Via ... is the first inhabited area on the left (about 700 meters from the intersection).
Coming from the West (Pisa, Genoa, Autostrada A11) exit from the autostrada following signs for Piazza della Liberta/Stadio. Shortly before arriving at the stadium, cross the overpass of the train tracks of Piazza delle Cure, and from here follow signs for Via Faentina (S.R. 302), continuing always straight until arriving at the locality Le Quattro Strade (a few kilometers after the center of Caldine). Turn left in Via Casa del Vento following signs for Vaglia Bivigliano. Via ... is the first neighborhood on the left (about 700 meters from the intersection).
BY TRAIN / BY BUS:
By train get off at the Florence station of S. Maria Novella, and take a regional train for Borgo San Lorenzo that stops at the station of Fiesole/Caldine. When you arrive there phone il Fornaccio for pick-up (to arrange ahead of time).
By bus (bus company Sita www.sita.on-line.it) from the bus station in Via S. Caterina da Siena, 50 meters from the train station of S. Maria Novella. Take the bus for Borgo San Lorenzo (Via Polcanto) and get off at the "Olmo" stop. Then follow Via Casa al Vento following signs for Vaglia Bivigliano. Via ...is the first neighborhood on the left (about 700 meters from the intersection). Alternatively one can arrange for pick-up service at the bus stop, calling il Fornacio (by pre-arrangement).
BY PLANE:
From the airport of Peretola take bus #52 (or a taxi) to the train station of S. Maria Novella. From there, follow the instructions above for "train" or "bus". Alternatively, one can take a taxi directly to "Fornaccio" approximately 18 kilometers from the airport).
Hints and Tips Il Fornaccio is located on the hillside of the Olmo, at 500 meters above sea level, sited panoramically, ten minutes by car from Fiesole and from Florence (easily reached by public transport, 700 meters from a bust stop, and six kilometers from the train station of Caldine).
Its proximity to three major roads leading out of town, Via Faentina, Via Bolognese and Via Forlivese, makes it an ideal point of departure for excursions in the Mugello, Val di Sieve, Chianti and Valdarno.
