In the downstairs area, the thick stone walls and barrel vaulting keep kitchen and living area cool and pleasant even in the heat of summer. Upstairs a modern bathroom with separate bath and shower and 2 comfortable bedrooms provide all home comforts for an afternoon siesta or a good night's sleep. All the windows have traditional thick wooden shutters for protection from the sun. The house is fully equipped as it is my home most of the year. The furniture is mainly family pieces with a few modern items for comfort (such as the hand-made wooden bed). There is plenty of English reading matter (particularly if you like thrillers and gardening books). Most of the crockery in the house comes from the local potters.The house's position in the heart of the village means you can park your car in the private parking area provided and then forget about it. Within easy reach are 2 very good restaurants, (one is even in the same street). If you prefer to do your own cooking, you can buy fresh produce from the local shops and the village market without ever needing to get the car out. A small pinewood at the top of the village provides pleasant walking within easy reach and for the more adventurous, there is a network of footpaths for you to explore the surrounding countryside with its vineyards and forest(garrigue). There is a very pleasant outdoor swimming pool at Uzès, with picnic area, only 3 miles away.

Means of access If you fly to Nimes or Montpellier, take the A9 motorway to Remoulins, then follow the instructions below.If you drive down, follow the A9 motorway to Remoulins (14 miles away), then the signs to Uzès where Saint Quentin la Poterie is signposted. Hints and Tips No stay in Saint Quentin la Poterie is complete without visiting several of the many potters who live and work in the village. This is a local tradition, as the name of the village implies. A wide variety of styles are produced including raku, grès, porcelain, each hand-made and decorated. Even if you stay for a fortnight you can visit a different pottery each day. A doll-maker has recently arrived in the village and you can visit the shop where she displays her beautiful hand-made dolls. Just wandering round the village discovering nooks and crannies and old houses and tiny streets is a fascinating way to spend a different type of holiday.
