Oldest square of Paris, the Royal Place des Vosges was originally named the Place Royale, which construction between 1605 and 1612 was decided by Henry IV the king. At the floor level number of harmonious arcades surround the square, all made in red brick and stone facings. The center south and north gateways were respectively the kings and queens pavilions.
