Means of access From Phuket:
By Sea Plane – Destination Air www.destinationair.com run daily flights from Phuket Airport direct to the local beach on Ko Lanta. These take approx 30 mins and give a great view of the surrounding islands. Prices are from 4,000 baht one way. These run all year round weather permitting.
By ferry – you can take a passenger ferry from Phuket to Ko Lanta, these depart daily from Phuket port and take approximately 21/2 hours, stopping at Phi- Phi island on the way. To get to Phuket port take a taxi from the airport. The ferries only run in high season October – May weather depending.
By car – If you are hiring a car you can drive from Phuket to Ko Lanta in approx 4 hours. The drive is an easy fast road through scenic Phang- Nga, Krabi, then on to Ko Lanta. You will need to cross two car ferries to get to Ko Lanta Yai. The drive to the ferry is approx 3 hours and the ferry crossing takes approx 45 minutes.
From Krabi
By ferry - you can take a passenger ferry from Krabi to Ko Lanta, these depart twice daily from Krabi port, a short taxi ride from the airport, and take approximately 1.5 hours. The ferries only run in high season October – May weather depending.
By car - If you are hiring a car you can drive from Krabi to Ko Lanta in approx 2 hours. The drive is an easy fast road through scenic Krabi, to the port where you will need to cross two car ferries to get to Ko Lanta Yai. The drive to the ferry is approx 45 minutes to 1 hour and the ferry crossing takes approx 45 minutes.
Hints and Tips Ko Lanta is a family friendly relaxed island full of secluded beaches, laid back bars and restaurants on the beach and plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained. It is a safe and child friendly island and a great place to unwind, relax and discover Thailand whilst still enjoying the comforts that you are used to. Ko Lanta high season runs from October to May when the weather is cooler and it is the dry season. Peak season is December and January. The low season runs from May to October and the weather is hotter and wetter.
