The piazza is located near Ponte Vecchio (the Old Bridge) and Palazzo Pitti (Pitti Palace) and is the heart of Florence's Left Bank, the Oltrarno. Oltrarno is famous for its workshops where Florentine artisans continue to produce traditional handicrafts.
Casa Matilde is on the second floor of a building on the west side of the Piazza, within a structure that housed a convent in medieval times.
There are two large windows facing the piazza directly in front of Palazzo Guadagni, which was constructed in the 1500s.
Casa Matile was recently restored maintaining many of its splendid original characteristics. It is includes an entrance hall, a living room with a table and sofas, a kitchen with a stone chimney, working surfaces in Carrara marble, a bedroom with a king size wrought iron bed, a smaller bedroom with bunk beds, and a bathroom with a shower.
The floors throughout the apartment are in traditional antique terracotta.
Casa Matilde has everything you need to make your stay comfortable including ceiling fans in the bedrooms and living room. Because of the intense life of the square, the apartment is noisy, also during the night. However the windows of the bedrooms have double glasses.

From North or South: Motorway A1- take the exit Firenze Certosa which is the 2nd exit arriving from ROME ( south ) or the 3rd exit arriving from Bologna (north). Follow the directions for Centro (city center) which will lead you to Porta Romana. Pass through the old gate onto Piazza della Calza, to ask a free pass at the local police station, located on the right side of the square. Than take Via Romana and turn at the 5th street on the left, Via delle Caldaie, and after 50 meters you will find Piazza ... on the right. The apartment is at number..., just above the newsdealer on the corner.
- From west - Genova/ Cinque terre / Versilia / Lucca: once you reach Firenze don't take the 1st exit Firenze Nord , but keep driving direction Rome (south) take the exit FIRENZE CERTOSA, than follow the above directions.
By Train:
The Santa Maria Novella station is about 1,2 miles from the apartment. On foot the shortest route is through Piazza Santa Maria Novella and Via dei Fossi, than cross the Carraia bridge, take via dei Serragli and turn on the left in Via Sant'Agostino at the 2nd traffic lights.
By Bus (ATAF) from Firenze Santa Maria Novella train station:
Bus 11, 36 and 37. Get out from the train station through the main exit and reach the platform down the steps in front of the gardens. Bus n 11, 36 or 37 follow the same path, you must get out at the 2nd stop after the CARRAIA bridge and than take VIA SANT'AGOSTINO from the traffic lights. After a 3 minutes walk you will find PIAZZA SANTO SPIRITO on the left.
